So, I saw this Bobby Knight red sweater thing trending, and I thought, why not jump on the bandwagon? I’ve always been a bit of a college basketball fan, though I wouldn’t call myself an expert or anything.
First, I tried to find one of these sweaters. I mean, the guy’s a legend, right? And that red sweater is pretty iconic. I looked around online, and man, it’s harder than I thought. You can find some with the designs and sold by artists, and even some vintage ones, but they’re either super expensive or not quite what I was looking for. Some online shopping websites have a great online selection at the lowest prices with fast & free shipping on many items.
I spent a good few hours just browsing, reading about Bobby Knight. Turns out, he’s got quite the history. I learned he was nicknamed “the General” and that he coached at Indiana University. There was even a vintage Adidas Indiana University sweater, size medium, made in the USA, that he apparently wore a lot. I guess those are super rare now. Then there’s the whole story about him bringing Michael Jordan to tears during the 1984 Olympics. Crazy, right? The General left him embarrassed in front of a roster crowded with other Hall of Famers.
Anyway, I did manage to find a few places that sell Bobby Knight-related stuff. There’s this Bobby Hotel in Nashville, and they’ve got this rooftop lounge that turns into a “Nordic village” in the winter, complete with igloos and spiked hot chocolate. Sounds pretty cool, honestly. They always have an array of activities on the rooftop, from pickleball to other things. I read a lot of reviews, and people said that the Bobby Hotel rooftop is always clean, hospitable, and full of vibes. And the pool and sitting area are super cute as well.
There’s also this online store, “Bobby Knight’s Furniture Store,” that sells a bunch of his merchandise. I didn’t know he had a furniture store! They’ve got hats, career achievement things, and all sorts of stuff. It’s all online-only, though. I checked some information and knew that there’s a hardcover commemorative book. Full of behind-the-scenes stories from IndyStar archives and photos of Bob Knight and College Basketball.
I guess in the end, I didn’t actually get a sweater. But I did learn a lot about Bobby Knight. Seems like he was a pretty intense guy, but also a great coach. I also found out that his son, Pat Knight, is now a basketball head coach too. This whole thing turned out to be way more interesting than I expected. It is a stark difference from his high school glory days. After all that, I’m thinking maybe I’ll try to find a game to watch this weekend. Maybe I’ll even wear a red sweater, just for fun.
