Alright, so the other day, I was scrolling through my phone and I saw the headline: “Haney vs Prograis PPV Buys”. I’m a big boxing fan, so I got curious. I remembered that fight, it was a pretty big deal. Haney, the young gun, was moving up in weight to challenge Prograis, the champ. I remembered watching it, and it was a good show.
I started digging around to see what the actual pay-per-view numbers were. It was a bit of work, but I knew this thing was on DAZN, which is kind of new. I went to the DAZN website, it says if you are a DAZN user, it will be $59.99, if not, you should pay $79.99. Gosh, so expensive!
Then I remembered the Garcia vs Davis fight. It was huge! I found some articles talking about how that fight did over 1.2 million PPV buys. That’s massive, a total blockbuster! No wonder Davis got paid a ton for that one. I read somewhere he earned $35 million just for showing up, even though he lost.
- I saw a post somewhere that said the Haney-Prograis fight only did around 50,000 buys on DAZN. What? That’s way lower than I thought! What a massive difference.
- That got me thinking, why such a big gap? Is DAZN just not as popular? Are people not willing to pay that much?
- I guess it just wasn’t as big of a draw as the Davis-Garcia fight. Maybe it’s because Davis is a bigger name, or maybe the promotion was better.
My Conclusion
It’s all pretty crazy how much these numbers can change from fight to fight. I still enjoyed the Haney-Prograis fight, though. It was a solid performance by Haney, and it’s always fun to see a young fighter moving up and taking on a champion. I guess we will just have to wait and see how their next fights do on PPV.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure into the world of boxing PPV numbers. It’s a weird and interesting business, that’s for sure!
