Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with something a bit different – golf drivers. Specifically, I got it in my head to try out what Bryson DeChambeau was doing with that super long, 48-inch driver. I heard he was crushing the ball with that thing, and I just had to see if I could get some of that magic too.
First things first, I went and got myself a 48-inch driver shaft. It felt ridiculous holding it next to my normal driver – like a fishing pole or something. Anyway, I got it all set up and headed out to the range.
Man, let me tell you, swinging that thing was a whole different ball game. It felt so weird at first. My timing was totally off, and I was hitting these weak little slices all over the place. But I kept at it, trying to adjust my stance and grip. It was a struggle, honestly.
After a bucket of balls and a lot of frustration, I finally started to get a feel for it. I was focusing on making a smoother, wider swing arc, and it felt like things were starting to click. I even managed to hit a few that actually went pretty straight. And yeah, they did go farther than my usual drives, no doubt about it.
I don’t have a fancy launch monitor or anything like the pros, but I used my rangefinder to check some distances. On my good swings, I was definitely picking up some extra yards. It felt like I was hitting it maybe 15-20 yards farther, which is a pretty big deal in golf. I was so excited!

Findings:
- Longer driver: Yep, it definitely adds distance.
- Hard to control: It’s a beast to swing accurately.
- Requires adjustment: You gotta change your whole swing.
- Increased ball speed: On good hits, the ball really flies.
Now, am I going to switch to a 48-inch driver full-time? Probably not. It’s just too inconsistent for me right now. But it was a blast to experiment with, and I can totally see why a bomber like DeChambeau would use it. If you’ve got the patience and the strength, it’s a fun way to try to squeeze out some extra distance. Just be prepared for a wild ride!

For now I am going to keep practicing and see what else I can do with this driver. It will be a fun adventure for sure!
