Okay, so, today I wanna talk about something I got into recently – rating players from the Club América vs Necaxa game. I’m no expert, just a regular guy who likes soccer, but I figured it’d be fun to keep track of how I see these players performing.
First off, I had to actually watch the game, right? I mean, you can’t rate players if you haven’t seen them play. So I made sure to catch the whole match. I grabbed some snacks, got comfy on my couch, and watched the whole thing unfold.
Then, I needed a way to record my thoughts. I’m old school, so I just grabbed a notebook and a pen. I made two columns, one for each team. Then, I wrote down each player’s name and their number. As the game went on, I started jotting down little notes next to each player.
Like, for this one forward from Club América, I wrote “fast as heck” because, man, he was quick! For a defender from Necaxa, I noted down “solid tackling” because he was really good at getting the ball back. It wasn’t anything fancy, just my way of remembering how each guy did.
Here’s a little snippet of what my notes looked like:
-
Club América
-
Player 10: Really good dribbling, could improve on passing though.
-
Player 4: Strong defense, made a couple of key interceptions. Dude’s a wall.
-
Player 7: Seemed kinda tired today, not his best game.
-
Necaxa
-
Player 9: Great shot power! Scored a banger.
-
Player 2: A bit clumsy, gave away a few fouls.
-
Player 11: Worked hard all game, good stamina.
After the game ended, I started giving each player a score out of 10. It’s totally subjective, just based on my gut feeling and the notes I took. I didn’t use any fancy stats or anything, just what I saw and felt during the game.
I ended up with a whole page full of ratings and notes. It was actually pretty cool to see it all laid out like that. It’s not like I’m gonna send these ratings to some sports magazine or anything, but it helped me appreciate the game more. Plus, I can look back at my notes next time these teams play and see if my opinions have changed. It’s just a fun little project I’ve got going, and maybe you guys would enjoy doing something similar. It really changes how you watch the game!
