Okay, so I wanted to get a handle on how fast those pros on the PGA Tour actually swing their clubs. I mean, we all see them bomb those drives, but what does that translate to in terms of club head speed?

Digging for Data
I started by, you know, hitting up the usual spots online. I figured there had to be some articles or studies out there breaking down the average swing speeds. It wasn’t super easy to find one definitive answer, though. A lot of websites just threw around general numbers.
What I Found Out
After sifting through a bunch of stuff, it seems like the consensus is this:
- Average PGA Tour Driver Club Head Speed: Somewhere around 113-115 mph. That’s pretty darn fast!
- Long Hitters: The guys who really crush it, like Bryson DeChambeau, are swinging way faster, probably up in the 130s or even higher.
- Shorter Hitters: Not everyone is a bomber, some guys can get around 105 mph.
Putting It in Perspective
Now, I’m no pro, not even close. I grabbed my own clubs and went to see if the golf shop nearby had one of the launch monitor, trying to test my swings. I hit a few balls (okay, maybe more than a few) and, well, let’s just say I’m not joining the PGA Tour anytime soon. I was clocking in way lower than those averages, but hey, that is fine, golf is hard!
This whole thing was more about satisfying my own curiosity than anything else. It’s just wild to think about how much power those pros generate. It really puts their skill into perspective, It makes you appreciate the athleticism involved in golf even more.
