Okay, so today I wanted to dig into the stats of the classic “Superclásico” – River Plate vs. Boca Juniors. I’m a huge football fan, and this rivalry is legendary. So, I thought, let’s get some data and see what it tells us.
Finding the Data
First, I needed to find a place to get the numbers. I started off by looking at a few sports sites, but getting the match data was difficult. I wanted something I could really mess around with.
Cleaning Things Up
Once the info was at hand, I had to do some cleaning! I mean, I couldn’t just use the data as * was some missing data in a few matches, some columns had weird names. Basic stuff like that. I spent a good chunk of time just tidying everything up, making sure the dates were formatted correctly, and getting rid of any duplicate entries.
Start Analyzing
Now for the fun part! I started by calculating some basic stuff:
- Total Wins: How many times has each team won?
- Draws: How many matches ended in a tie?
- Goals Scored: Total goals scored by each team.
- Home vs. Away: Did either team have a big advantage playing at home?
I went match by match, counting up wins, losses, and draws. The most work was on the website, getting all the historical scores. Then I had to put them into a place to use them, I used a spreadsheet to record all the match scores and started doing the counts.
Results!
After working through it all, I totaled up the wins, losses, draws, the goals by * was really cool to see the numbers laid out like that. It’s one thing to feel like a rivalry is intense, but it’s another to see the actual stats.
This was a cool little project. It reminded me how much I love diving into data, especially when it comes to football. Maybe next time I’ll try to compare the stats of individual players in these matches!
