Alright, guys, so I’ve been diving deep into Elden Ring lately, and I’ve been having a blast figuring out all the different enemy weaknesses. Today, I wanted to share my experience with dragons and whether or not they’re actually weak to lightning.

So, I started by just, you know, playing the game. I wasn’t specifically looking for dragon weaknesses at first. I just encountered a few, and like anyone, I tried a bunch of different stuff. Fire, magic, the usual – and let me tell you, some of those dragons were TOUGH.
Then, I remembered something. Back in some of the older Souls games, lightning used to be pretty effective against dragons. Figured it was worth a shot! I equipped a weapon with lightning damage (I think it was a basic spear with a lightning ash of war), and I went back to that first dragon I fought, the one near the starting area.
And BAM! It actually worked surprisingly well. The dragon seemed to take way more damage from my lightning attacks than from anything else I’d thrown at it before. It was still a challenging fight, of course, but it definitely felt like I had an edge.
I didn’t stop there. I wanted to be sure, so I tested it out on a few other dragons. I found a couple more in different areas of the game, different types of dragons too, and the results were pretty consistent. Lightning damage seemed to be significantly more effective than other types of damage.
Now, I’m not saying it’s a guaranteed win button. You still need to dodge those fire breaths and stomps. But, from my experience, if you’re struggling with a dragon, give lightning a try. It might just be the key to taking them down.

My testing process, step-by-step
- Find a dragon. Any dragon will do.
- Try out different damage types (fire, magic, physical, etc.).
- Note how much damage each type does (roughly, no need for exact numbers, just see what feels effective).
- Equip a weapon or spell with lightning damage.
- Attack the dragon with lightning.
- Observe if the dragon takes more damage from lightning compared to other damage types.
- Repeat the test with several different dragons.
So yeah, that’s my little experiment and what I found. Let me know if you guys have had similar experiences, or if you’ve found other cool weaknesses!
