Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online about the Kiriko skins in Overwatch 2, and honestly, I had to dive in and see what the fuss was all about. I’m a big Overwatch fan, played the first one a ton, so naturally, I’m playing the heck out of the sequel.

First, I launched the game and headed straight to the hero gallery to check out Kiriko. I mean, she’s a cool new support hero, so of course, I wanted to see her skins.
I noticed right away that some of her legendary skins were locked behind the premium battle pass. That’s fine, I get it, they gotta make money somehow. But then I saw some skins, like the Athleisure one, only available in the shop for a pretty hefty price. And the Hinotori one, oh boy, people are heated about.
My Experiment
So, here’s what I did:
- I played a bunch of games, trying to grind out some of the free currency. It’s slow, really slow.
- I looked at the prices of the skins in the shop. I swear.
- I compared the cost to the price of the battle pass.
- I went down the rabbit hole on all the forum about skins.
Honestly, after all that, I kind of get the controversy. It feels like some of the coolest skins are locked behind a paywall, and it’s not a cheap paywall either. It’s a bummer because I love customizing my heroes, but I’m not sure I want to spend that much on a single skin. For someone who spend a lot of time on game per week, it makes me feel a bit bad.
My takeaway? I’ll probably stick to earning what I can through gameplay and maybe grab a skin or two if there’s a good deal. But I’m definitely not going to break the bank for them. I just hope they make some adjustments in the future, maybe make it a little easier to earn some of those premium currencies or lower the prices a bit. Just my two cents, I think.
