Okay, so I’ve been wanting to really dig into some baseball stats, specifically for the Kansas City Royals vs. New York Yankees games. I’m a huge Royals fan, but I gotta admit, those Yankees games are always intense. So, I decided to create my very own stat tracker.

First, I started by thinking about what I wanted to track. Obviously, I needed the basics: hits, runs, RBIs, that kind of stuff. But I also wanted to go a little deeper, maybe look at things like batting average against specific pitchers, or performance in high-pressure situations.
The Setup
I decided to keep things simple. No fancy software, no complicated databases. Just a good old-fashioned spreadsheet. I used Google Sheets because I can access it anywhere, and its easy to share.
I created columns for:
- Player Name
- At Bats (AB)
- Runs (R)
- Hits (H)
- Runs Batted In (RBI)
- Walks (BB)
- Strikeouts (SO)
- Batting Average (AVG)
- On-Base Percentage (OBP)
I also added some extra columns for specific situations, like “vs. Left-Handed Pitchers” and “With Runners in Scoring Position”.
The Data Gathering
Now for the fun part(actually the tedious part): getting the data! I went to a bunch of different websites those box scores. I copied and pasted the info into my spreadsheet. It took a while, I won’t lie. Game after game, player after player. But, I kept going, slowly filling in my rows and columns.

Doing the Calculation
After I entered all the stats, I had to make sure my formulas were right. I double, triple, and quadruple checked that I was calculating batting average and on-base percentage correctly. Math errors are the worst! It was a total pain, to be honest.
Seeing the Result
Finally, after all that work, I had my complete stat sheets! I could see how each player performed, not just overall, but in those specific situations I was curious *’s pretty cool to see it all laid out, and it definitely gives me a new perspective on the games. I can use it to show off to my friend or family, also I think it is good to keep doing it.
