Okay, so today I decided to tackle this “football buddy crossword” thing. I’d seen it floating around online and figured, why not? I’m a pretty big football fan, and I do enjoy a good crossword, so it seemed like a fun way to kill some time.
First, I found a version of the crossword online. It wasn’t too hard to track down, thankfully. There were a bunch of different ones, but I just picked one that looked decent and printed it out. I like having a physical copy to work with; feels more satisfying, you know?
Getting Started
Initially, I took a quick look at the clues. Some of them were super easy, like, “The team that Tom Brady used to play for.” Obviously, that’s the Patriots. Boom, one down! Others, though, were way trickier. Stuff about specific plays from games I barely remembered, or obscure player stats. Those were definitely going to take some work.
- Easy ones? Filled those in right away.
- Tough ones? Left them blank for the moment.
My strategy was pretty simple: go through all the clues once, fill in the ones I knew for sure, and then come back to the harder ones later. That way, I could get some momentum going and not get stuck on one clue for too long.
The Grind
After the first pass, I had about half the crossword filled in. Not bad! Then came the real challenge. I started Googling some of the clues I was stuck on. Thank goodness for the internet, seriously. I found some fan forums and old game recaps that helped me piece things together.
There were a couple of clues that were real head-scratchers. I had to really dig to find the answers. I spent a good chunk of time just reading through articles and forums. At one point, I even ended up watching some old game highlights on YouTube, just to see if I could spot the play mentioned in one of the clues!
The Final Stretch
Slowly but surely, I started to fill in more and more of the blanks. It was actually pretty satisfying to see the crossword coming together. Each answer I found felt like a little victory.
Finally, I was down to the last few clues. These were the REALLY tough ones. I spent a good hour just staring at the crossword, racking my brain, and trying different combinations of letters. Finally, after some serious trial and error I was able to figure the whole thing out!
It took a while, but I finished the whole thing! It was definitely a fun challenge. And, I gotta say, I learned a few things about football history along the way. Might have to make this a regular thing!
