Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with creating a digital portrait, and I decided to try drawing Daria Medvedeva. I’ve seen some cool artwork of her online, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
Getting Started
First, I gathered some reference photos. I just did a quick search online and saved a bunch of images to a folder on my desktop. I wanted a variety of poses and lighting situations to get a good feel for her features.
The Sketching Process
Next, I opened up my drawing program – I usually use something simple, nothing too fancy. I started with a really rough sketch, just trying to get the basic shapes and proportions down. This part is always a bit messy, lots of erasing and redrawing lines until it starts to look somewhat human.
- I focused on the shape of her face first.
- Then I added in the eyes, nose, and mouth, trying to get the placement right.
- I made sure that I can try again anytime if the placement is off.
Adding Details and Refining
Once I had a sketch I was মোটামুটি okay with, I started refining things. I added more detail to the eyes, the hair, and the clothing. This is where the reference photos really came in handy. I kept flipping back and forth between my drawing and the photos, trying to capture the subtle details.
Coloring and Shading
After the line art was done, it was time to add some color! I picked out some basic colors for the skin, hair, and clothes. Then, the fun part – shading! I tried to figure out where the light was coming from and added shadows and highlights accordingly. This part always takes me the longest, because I’m a bit of a perfectionist.
Finishing Touches
Finally, I added some finishing touches, like a simple background and some highlights in the hair. I also tweaked the colors a bit until I was happy with the overall look. I not gonna lie, it takes long time to draw!
And that’s it! It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It was a fun little project, and I definitely learned a few things along the way. Maybe I’ll try another portrait soon!
