Okay, so I got curious the other day about how much salt actually weighs. I mean, we use it all the time, but do we ever really think about its weight? I decided to do a little experiment in my kitchen.

First, I grabbed my trusty kitchen scale. It’s one of those digital ones that’s pretty accurate, or so I thought. Then, I found my salt container – just regular table salt, nothing fancy.
My Little Experiment
I started by making sure my scale was set to zero. You know, gotta get that baseline right. Then, I took a teaspoon and carefully scooped out some salt. I tried to make it a level teaspoon, not heaping or anything. I placed the spoonful of salt on the scale and waited for the reading.
It read 5 grams! Okay, one teaspoon of table salt is about 5 grams. I was pretty satisfied with that until.
- I did it a few more times, just to be sure. I mean, consistency is key, right? And the readings were pretty much the same, maybe a tiny bit off here and there, but basically 5 grams each time.
- So then I thought, what about a tablespoon?I did same thing . I get my tablespoon to measure the salt then put it on the scale.
The reading showed 15grams!Wow I got the clear result that one tablespoon of salt is 15 grams .So a tablespoon is three times heavier than a teaspoon!
It’s kind of cool to know these little things, isn’t it? Now, whenever I’m cooking and a recipe calls for a certain weight of salt, I’ll have a better idea of how much that actually is. Plus, it’s just fun to do these little experiments at home!
