Well, let me tell ya, folks, I ain’t no tech expert, but I can sure tell when something ain’t working right, and let me tell ya, this Final Fantasy 16 on PC ain’t doing too good. Some people say it runs okay, but they ain’t seeing the full picture. I got this fancy game on my machine, and I tell ya, it’s a real mess. You’d think with all the money that went into this game, they’d get the performance right. But nah, it’s like trying to run a horse-drawn cart down a smooth highway, doesn’t work as expected. Final Fantasy XVI is an action RPG by Square Enix, and while it’s got a big ol’ world for ya to explore, the way it runs on PC makes ya wanna pull your hair out.
First off, let me tell ya about the performance mode. Now, when you’re out there fighting, sure, it stays at a nice steady 60 frames per second (fps). But the second you stop fighting, things start to wobble and drop down faster than a chicken on a hot stove. Outside of combat? Forget about it! It ain’t as smooth as they promised. I heard some folks say it’s the worst PC port they’ve seen in years. And trust me, after tryin’ to play it, I might just agree with ’em. It’s like they took all the fancy graphics and stuffed ’em in a sack with holes in it.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ it’s all bad. There’s some good parts, like when you use the NVIDIA DLSS 3—you know, that fancy tech that’s supposed to make everything run smoother. But even with that, it’s not perfect. I tried it on a high-end NVIDIA RTX 4090, and guess what? The game still can’t keep up with the 60fps it promised, especially in the toughest parts of the game. Sometimes, it’s crawling down to the 50s, like a tired old mule dragging its feet through the mud. I’ve heard of places where the frame rate goes up over 70fps, but let me tell ya, those are few and far between. Most of the time, it’s like watchin’ a horse tryin’ to run with a broken leg.
One thing I did find, though, is that the game don’t need a super fancy CPU to run, but it sure does need a high-end GPU. If you ain’t got a strong enough graphics card, don’t even bother. No amount of fiddling with settings will save you. They don’t even give you much to work with in the game settings except the Dynamic Resolution option, and that ain’t enough to make the game run smooth all the time.
Now, I ain’t one to just complain without offerin’ some solutions, so if you’re like me and want this game to run a little better, there’s a few things you can try. I came across a tool called FFXVIFix. Sounds fancy, don’t it? This tool helps by removing the frame rate cap on the cutscenes and lets you use ultrawide resolution too. That might help you get a little better experience, especially during the story parts, which can be real slow otherwise.
Also, if you’re stuck with an old graphics card like a RTX 2060, there’s still hope. I read that if you drop the game’s settings all the way to the Low Preset, you can get a nice little bump in performance. We’re talkin’ about a 22% increase in fps, which ain’t bad! I’m sure the graphics won’t be as pretty, but at least you won’t feel like you’re fightin’ the game just to see what’s happenin’.
Overall, though, it seems like the PC port of Final Fantasy 16 still needs a lot of work. It’s a real shame, considering how much potential this game has. If you’ve got the right gear, it can be a decent experience, but if not, well, you might be in for a rough ride. Square Enix really dropped the ball on this one, and it shows.
So, if you’re thinking about playin’ this game on your PC, maybe wait a little while before you jump in. Hopefully, they’ll fix some of these issues and make it run smoother. But until then, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re willing to mess around with all kinds of settings and hope for the best.
