So, I decided it was finally time to check out these PGA tour branded pants everyone seems to talk about, or at least, the kind of pants you see the pros wearing. My old trusty golf slacks were starting to feel, well, old. Stiff, kind of hot, and honestly, not looking too sharp anymore after countless washes and rounds.

I didn’t go too crazy with research. Mostly just browsed around online, looked at what the different big brands offered under their ‘tour’ or ‘performance’ lines. Seemed like everyone promised stretch, moisture-wicking, lightweight feel. You know, the usual stuff. I wasn’t looking for anything revolutionary, just something genuinely comfortable for walking 18 holes, especially when it gets warm, and that wouldn’t bunch up or restrict my swing.
Ended up grabbing a pair from a brand I’ve used for shirts before. Found them on sale, which always helps push me over the edge. They arrived pretty quickly. First thing I did was take them out of the package. The material felt really thin, almost suspiciously so. Lightweight? Definitely. But I wondered if they’d hold up.
Trying Them On and Hitting the Course
I slipped them on. The fit was pretty good, maybe a touch more ‘athletic’ cut than my old ones, but not tight. The stretch was immediately noticeable. Just walking around the house, bending down – they moved with me, which was a good sign. Didn’t have that ‘plasticky’ feel some performance fabrics get.
The real test, obviously, was playing golf in them. Headed out last weekend. It wasn’t super hot, maybe low 70s, but humid.
- Walking: This was a big improvement. They felt light, almost like I wasn’t wearing heavy trousers. No chafing, no pulling.
- Swinging: Full range of motion, no problem. Didn’t feel the fabric bind up during the backswing or follow-through, which used to happen sometimes with my older cotton-blend pants.
- Comfort: Stayed pretty comfortable throughout the round. They seemed to breathe well. Didn’t feel sweaty or clammy, even on the back nine.
What surprised me was how well they handled a little bit of morning dew on the grass. Water seemed to bead off instead of soaking in immediately. Didn’t expect that from such a light material.

Are they perfect? Well, the pockets felt a little shallower than I’m used to. My scorecard holder and ball marker felt a bit less secure. And being so lightweight, I do wonder how they’ll handle colder weather or snagging on a branch if I end up in the trees (which happens more than I’d like to admit).
Overall, though, I get why players wear this type of pant. The focus is purely on comfort and performance during the game. They don’t get in your way. Compared to my old pants, it’s a definite upgrade in comfort and mobility. Was it worth the switch? Yeah, I think so. Made the walk more pleasant and swinging felt freer. I’ll probably pick up another pair in a different color. They just make playing golf feel a bit easier, and I need all the help I can get.
