Okay, so someone asked me about this ‘invited celebrity classic leaderboard’ thing I put together a while back. It wasn’t anything super fancy, just something whipped up for a little gathering we had.

How it Started
We had this event, kind of a retro game night, and managed to get a few local ‘celebs’ – you know, familiar faces around town, maybe a local radio host, that kind of person – to join in. The idea popped up: wouldn’t it be fun to see how they stacked up against each other in some old-school games? Like Pac-Man or something simple. So, a leaderboard felt like the natural next step.
Getting the Scores
This part was pretty straightforward. No complicated databases or anything. I just grabbed a notepad and a pen. As folks played their turn, I jotted down their names and their final scores. Real basic stuff. Had to make sure I got the names spelled right, that was probably the trickiest part!
- Grabbed a notepad.
- Wrote down names as they played.
- Recorded the scores right next to them.
- Double-checked spellings (mostly!).
Making the Board
Once the games wrapped up, I had my list of names and scores. I wanted to display it so everyone could see. My first thought was just writing it big on a whiteboard we had there. Simple, right? So, I ranked them from highest score to lowest. Just sorted the list by hand.
Then I transferred it to the whiteboard. Big letters, name on the left, score on the right. Nothing more complicated than that. We didn’t need anything online or updating in real-time. It was just for that one night, that one event.
The Final Look
And that was pretty much it. A big whiteboard showing the ‘Invited Celebrity Classic Leaderboard’. People got a kick out of seeing the rankings. It added a bit of fun competition to the evening. Sometimes the simple ways are the best, you know? No need to overcomplicate things when a pen and a whiteboard do the job just fine for a small, one-off event like that.
