Okay, so I spent some time this morning trying to get a feel for the Astros vs Guardians game happening later. I like to try and figure these things out beforehand, just for myself, you know?

My Process
First thing I did was pull up the recent records. Had to see who’s been winning and who’s been losing over the last week or so. You get a sense of whether a team is hot or cold.
Then, the big one for me is always the starting pitchers. I looked up who’s scheduled to throw for both Houston and Cleveland. Didn’t go super deep, just checked their recent performance, like their last couple of starts. Are they getting rocked, or are they dealing? That usually tells me a lot.
Injuries were next on my list. I scrolled through some sports updates to see if any key guys are sitting out. Sometimes one missing player, especially a big hitter or the closer, can totally change the game.
- Checked Astros injury report.
- Checked Guardians injury report.
I also tried to remember their last series against each other, if they played recently. Sometimes one team just seems to have the other’s number, or the games are always super tight. I glanced quickly at the season series results just to refresh my memory on that.
Putting it Together
After gathering all that stuff, I just sort of let it sit for a minute. The Astros have looked pretty solid offensively in some games, but the Guardians’ pitching, when it’s on, can shut anyone down. It felt like a classic strength-on-strength kind of matchup.

I considered the pitching matchup pretty heavily. Seemed like one pitcher had a slight edge based on recent outings, but not by a huge margin. Then I weighed the lineups and who’s been hitting the ball well.
Home field advantage? Yeah, maybe that gives the home team a little bump, but I didn’t put too much stock in it for this particular game.
So, after chewing on it, looking at the pitchers, the recent play, and who’s healthy, I started leaning one way.
My Take
Based on what I saw, particularly the pitching situation and how the lineups match up against them, I ended up penciling in the Astros for the win today. Felt like they had a slightly better edge overall, looking at everything I checked. Not saying it’ll be a blowout, probably a close one, maybe decided by a run or two late in the game. But yeah, that’s where I landed after my look-through this morning. We’ll see what happens on the field, always fun to watch it play out.
