So, I’ve been putting some time into watching this Santos Escobar guy lately. You see him on SmackDown, right? Trying to figure out his whole deal.

Getting Started with Legado
Okay, so first thing I clocked was his group, Legado Del Fantasma. Remember them? Started in NXT, moved up. Had this real smooth, kinda dangerous vibe. Escobar as the leader, obviously, then Joaquin Wilde, Cruz Del Toro, and Zelina Vega joined later. They had a look, a style. It felt kinda tight-knit, you know?
I spent a bit just watching their old matches, the way they worked together. Escobar’s got that lucha libre background but carries himself like a boss. The others were the backup, making sure things went his way. It was a solid setup, made sense.
The LWO Thing
Then things got mixed up. They joined Rey Mysterio’s revived Latino World Order (LWO). Now, I remember the original LWO with Eddie Guerrero back in the day in WCW. It was kinda cool seeing that name back. Seemed like a big deal, joining up with a legend like Rey.
- They were all buddies for a while.
- Fighting against Judgment Day mostly.
- Looked like a proper united front.
But honestly? It kinda felt like Legado lost a bit of their own edge being part of the bigger group. Escobar wasn’t the main guy anymore, Rey was. Just my observation, watching it week to week.
The Heel Turn and the Split
Then, bam! Things went south fast. Escobar turns on Rey. Said Rey chose Carlito over him or something? It got messy real quick. This was just a few months back.

Next thing you know, Escobar’s blaming Carlito for an attack on Dragon Lee, trying to make Carlito the bad guy. But then Escobar straight up admits he orchestrated stuff, brings in Angel and Berto (Los Lotharios) as his new backup. So, he leaves the LWO, turns heel again, basically reforming his own crew but angrier.
Trying to keep track was a bit much. One week they’re LWO brothers, the next Escobar is stabbing Rey in the back, then blaming Carlito, then bringing in new guys. It felt kinda rushed, like they needed a bad guy quick and pointed at Santos.
Where We Are Now
So now, Escobar is back to being the leader of his own little faction, feuding with the LWO folks he used to team with. He’s got Angel and Berto with him. It’s like Legado Del Fantasma, but rebranded with a grudge. Carlito ended up getting drafted to Raw anyway, so that whole specific feud kinda fizzled out weirdly across brands.
It’s been a bit of a ride just watching this one guy’s storyline shift so much in the past year. From NXT leader, to SmackDown faction boss, to LWO member, and now back to being the main antagonist against the LWO. Keeps you watching, I guess, but sometimes you just want things to settle for a minute, you know? Anyway, that’s what I’ve seen play out watching him.
