Alright, let’s talk about this Sean Strickland fella and the betting odds, you know, like the money stuff. I heard some folks talking about it down at the store, and it got me thinkin’. This here fightin’ business, it’s a whole different world.
So, they got these fellas, right? And they fight each other. And you can bet on who’s gonna win. It’s like pickin’ a horse at the races, but with more punchin’ and kickin’. Now, this Strickland guy, I hear he’s pretty tough. They call him somethin’… Tarzan, I think. Sounds like a wild one.
I saw on that little computin’ machine my grandson got me, it said somethin’ about Strickland bein’ a favorite in some fight. Favorite, that means folks think he’s gonna win, see? Like when you bet on the rooster that always pecks the other chickens, you know he’s a good bet.
But then, there’s these numbers. Like, plus this and minus that. Confusin’ as heck, I tell ya. My grandson tried explainin’ it, somethin’ about how much money you gotta bet to win a certain amount. He said somethin’ like, “-138 means you gotta bet $138 to win $100.” That’s a lot of money, ain’t it? And then he said “+108 means if you bet $100, you win $108”. Seems like the fella that is “+108” is the one folks don’t think is gonna win. But then again, maybe if I bet on the one folks ain’t bettin’ on, and he wins, I get more money? My head’s spinnin’ just thinkin’ about it.
- They got these things called “money lines”. Sound fancy, but it’s just about who’s gonna win.
- Then there’s “point spreads.” I ain’t got a clue what that is. Somethin’ about points, I guess. Like in basketball? But they punch each other in this fightin’ stuff, not throw balls.
- And “totals.” Lord have mercy. More numbers. My head hurts.
Anyways, I heard Strickland makes a lotta money. Like, millions! Can you believe that? For punchin’ someone! Shoot, I worked my whole life on the farm, and I ain’t never seen that kind of money. They said he got over a million just for one fight! And that’s just the money they tell ya about. Who knows how much they really make? They probably got secret money stashed away somewhere.
They was talkin’ about this other fella too, Paulo Costa somethin’. And another one, Dricus somethin’ or other. All these funny names. Hard to keep track. But it seems like Strickland was the favorite in one fight and then maybe not in another. It changes all the time, like the weather. One day it’s sunny, the next day it’s rainin’ cats and dogs. And that Adesanya fella, they said he was the favorite over Strickland in one of them fights. This betting stuff, it’s a gamble, plain and simple. You win some, you lose some. Mostly lose, I reckon.
My grandson keeps tellin’ me I should try to understand so I can maybe make some money off of it. He said Strickland’s fight at UFC 293 had odds on it too and he saw Strickland was the underdog. He said he could’ve made a lot of money if he had bet on Strickland then. But I said, “Boy, you leave that gamblin’ alone. It ain’t for us simple folk.” We ain’t got money to throw around. We gotta work hard for every penny. This fightin’ and bettin’, it’s for them city slickers with too much money and not enough sense.
But I gotta admit, it’s kinda interestin’. All that money changin’ hands, all that excitement. It’s like a whole ‘nother world out there. Maybe I’ll just stick to watchin’ the chickens peck each other. At least I know who’s gonna win that fight.
So, to sum it all up, this Strickland fella, he’s a fighter, and people bet on him. Sometimes he’s the favorite, sometimes he ain’t. They use fancy numbers and words, but it all boils down to guessin’ who’s gonna win. And that’s somethin’ I ain’t never been good at. So, I’ll just stick to my gardenin’ and leave the bettin’ to them folks who know more than me.
