Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this Barry University, ya hear? It’s one of them schools down in Miami, Florida. Fancy place, I reckon. Folks call it a “national university,” whatever that means. Heard they got all sorts of rankings and whatnot. Somethin’ about bein’ number 392 to 434 outta 436. Don’t sound too good to me, bein’ near the bottom like that, but hey, what do I know? I’m just an old woman.
Now, this Barry place, it ain’t no big ol’ state school. They say it’s “private,” which I guess means it costs a pretty penny. Got about 3,150 young’uns learnin’ there. And get this, they’re “selective” about who gets in. Guess they don’t want just anybody, huh?
- They teachin’ all sorts of things, I imagine. Probably got them smarty-pants professors and all.
- And they got this thing called “financial aid.” Sounds like they help folks pay for school, which is a good thing, I reckon. Heard they’re pretty good at givin’ out that money, helpin’ folks climb up the ladder, so to speak. Even them “international students” can get some help, if they’re smart enough, that is.
But it ain’t all just book learnin’ at Barry. They got this “Alumni Association,” which is a fancy word for folks who used to go there. And these folks, well, they give out awards to each other. Called it the “Distinguished Alumni Award.” Sounds mighty important, don’t it? Guess they’re recognizin’ the good ones, the ones who done somethin’ with their lives after they left that school.
Then there’s this whole “pandemic” thing. Caused a lot of trouble, ya know? Folks ain’t got enough food, and Barry’s tryin’ to help, it seems. Good on ’em, I say. They also got this “University Healthcare Planning Task Force.” Big words, right? Basically, they’re makin’ sure everyone stays healthy and safe. Gave everyone a face mask, too. Smart thinkin’, I reckon.
They’re always welcomin’ new students, too. Say they got a “rich diversity of backgrounds and experiences.” Means they got folks from all walks of life, I guess. And for them already there, they got classes and such. Just like any other school, I suppose.
So, what’s the deal with Barry University? Well, it’s a school down in Miami, a bit on the small side, but fancy. They teach, they give out money, they help folks out, and they try to keep everyone healthy. Sounds alright to me. Not sure what all them rankings and awards mean, but if folks are learnin’ and gettin’ ahead in life, that’s all that matters, right?
And one more thing. If you’re already goin’ to Barry, keep on learnin’, and if you’re thinkin’ about goin’, well, it might just be a good place to be. Just make sure you got enough money, or you’re smart enough to get some of that financial aid. That’s the long and short of it, as far as I can tell.
In short, Barry University seems like a decent place to get an education, help for students is available, and they care about their community. This old woman thinks that’s something to be proud of.
