Alright, alright, let’s talk about this NBA Countdown thing, you know, the show they put on before the basketball games. I ain’t no expert, but I watch it sometimes when I’m waitin’ for the game to start. They got these folks talkin’ and jabberin’ about the players and the teams.
So, first off, there’s this lady, Malika Andrews. She’s the main one, the boss lady, I guess. She keeps them boys in line, you know, makin’ sure they don’t go off the rails too much. She’s pretty good, knows her stuff, talks all fancy about points and rebounds and all that jazz. I hear she’s on that “NBA Today” show too, workin’ hard, that one.
Then they got these fellas, the analysts they call ’em. One of ’em is Stephen A. Smith. Lord, that man can yell! He gets all worked up about everything, stompin’ and shoutin’. Sometimes I gotta turn the volume down a bit, you know? But he’s entertainin’, I’ll give him that. He sure does love to argue.
- And there’s Michael Wilbon too. He’s a bit calmer than Stephen A., more thoughtful-like. He sits there and nods his head and then he says somethin’ smart, makes you think. He’s been around a long time, seen a lot of games, I bet.
- They got a new fella this year, Bob Myers. He used to be a big shot, runnin’ a whole team, they say. Now he’s sittin’ at the desk talkin’ about the games. He seems alright, knows the inside scoop, you know? He won a championship back in the day, playin’ basketball in college. UCLA, I think it was. Fancy school.
Oh, and that big fella, Kendrick Perkins, he’s on there sometimes too. He used to play, a real bruiser, they say. He’s loud too, like Stephen A., but in a different way. He gets all excited and talks with his hands. He’s funny though, makes me laugh sometimes.
They talk about all sorts of things, these folks. Who’s gonna win, who’s playin’ good, who’s playin’ bad. They show highlights, you know, the fancy dunks and the long shots. Sometimes they argue, sometimes they agree. It’s like sittin’ around the kitchen table talkin’ about the game with your friends, only these folks know a whole lot more about basketball than my friends do.
And this DoorDash is sponsorin’ the show, whatever that means. They keep sayin’ “NBA Countdown presented by DoorDash”. Must be some kinda food company, I guess. These young folks and their fancy names for things. Back in my day, we just had dinner, we didn’t have no fancy “DoorDash”.
Anyway, it’s a good show, keeps you entertained before the game starts. They got a whole bunch of ’em now, new folks joinin’ up every year it seems. ESPN, that’s the channel, they been doin’ this NBA Countdown for a long time, twenty years they say. That’s a lot of talkin’ about basketball.
So, if you’re waitin’ for the game to start, flip on ESPN and watch these folks yap about the players. You might learn somethin’, or you might just have a good laugh. Either way, it’s better than just sittin’ there starin’ at the wall, I reckon.
And they got this “premiere week” thing, sounds all fancy. That’s when they start the new season, show off all the new folks and the new stuff they gonna do on the show. It’s like gettin’ a brand new tractor, all shiny and ready to go, you know? Gotta show it off to everyone.
And they put it on Watch ESPN too, whatever that is. Some kinda computer thing, I guess. These youngsters and their phones and their computers, always lookin’ at screens. Me, I like watchin’ on the TV, big and clear, see all the action. But I guess it’s good they got it on all them different ways, so everyone can watch, no matter where they are.
So yeah, that’s the NBA Countdown. A bunch of folks talkin’ about basketball. Nothin’ too complicated, just good ol’ sports talk. Gets you ready for the game, gets you thinkin’ about who’s gonna win, who’s gonna lose. And that’s all there is to it, really.
