Well now, lemme tell ya ’bout this here game, the Yankees versus them Texas Rangers. Folks was sayin’ it was gonna be a big one, and they weren’t wrong, no sirree. It was a real humdinger, that’s what it was. Folks was cheerin’ and hollerin’, and some was even throwin’ their hats in the air. It was somethin’ else, let me tell ya.
Them Yankees, they come in strong, swingin’ them bats like they was choppin’ wood. I tell ya, those boys can hit! And the Rangers, well, they put up a good fight, they did. They was scrappy, those fellas, runnin’ and divin’ all over the place. But the Yankees, they just had a little bit more oomph, I reckon.
- First off, that pitcher for the Yankees, Carlos somethin’-or-other, he was throwin’ fire, lemme tell ya. Them Rangers boys couldn’t hardly touch the ball. He was slingin’ it in there like he was throwin’ rocks at a squirrel. Made them hitters look silly, he did.
- Then there’s that Austin Wells fella. He got a whole bunch of runs batted in, they call ’em. Four, I think it was. Drove ’em in like he was herding cattle. Whack! That bat sounded like a thunderclap every time he hit it.
- And that Nathan Eovaldi for the Rangers, he pitched a whole game, nine innings they say, and only let them Yankees get a few hits. That’s a real feat, that is. A shutout, they call it. But even that weren’t enough to beat them Yankees this time.
The Yankees, they won the game, see. Eighty wins they got now, and fifty-eight losses. That’s pretty good, I’d say. They’re sittin’ on top of their division, that AL East thingy. Them Rangers, well, they’re pretty much out of it, poor things. Can’t win ’em all, I guess.
Now, I ain’t no expert on all these fancy stats they talk about. Win-loss percentages and all that. But I know a good game when I see one. And this here was a good game, even if my old bones were achin’ from sittin’ in them hard seats. Them Yankees and Rangers, they put on a show, that’s for sure.
Heard some folks talkin’ ’bout head-to-head stats. Sounds complicated to me. But I guess it means who’s won more games against who. The Yankees, they probably got the edge there, seein’ as how they won this game. But them Rangers, they ain’t pushovers, no sir. They got some good players, they do. That fella that won that Silver Slugger award, he’s a hitter, I tell ya. Folks was sayin’ some Yankees fans was upset ’bout that, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.
This here game on August 10th, it was somethin’ special. Them Yankees was scorin’ runs left and right, and the Rangers, they was tryin’ to keep up, but it just wasn’t their day. They was a-fightin’ and a-scratchin’, but them Yankees just had too much firepower. Giancarlo, whoever he is, he helped them Yankees get the win on Sunday too. Close game that one, 8 to 7.
Anyways, that’s the long and short of it. Yankees won, Rangers lost. It was a good game, lots of excitement. Folks went home happy, well, the Yankees fans did anyways. And that’s all that matters, I reckon. Now, where’s that cornbread? All this talkin’s made me hungry.
One last thing, though. I heard someone say somethin’ ’bout a box score. Said it had all them pitchin’ and hittin’ numbers. Don’t make much sense to me, all them numbers. But I guess some folks like that kinda stuff. Me? I just like watchin’ the boys play ball. And them Yankees and Rangers, they sure can play.
