Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these Twins fellas winnin’ 20 games. Twenty wins, that’s a whole heap of winnin’, ya know? Like that fella said, it’s some kinda magic number. If you could just take a pill to get ya there, wouldn’t everyone be doin’ it? It ain’t that easy, though.
Now, these Twins, they ain’t always been from around here, ya know. They used to be way over in Washington, D.C. Called themselves the Senators back then. Heard they moved up here to Minneapolis in ’61. That’s a long time ago, longer than I’ve been around, I reckon. They’ve done alright for themselves, though. Won three World Series, they did. 1924, 1987, and 1991. Those were good years, I bet. Folks musta been real happy.
- 1924 World Series
- 1987 World Series

And the players, oh my, they had some good ones. This fella Sam Rice, he hit the ball more’n anyone else for the Twins. Almost 3000 hits, that’s what I heard. Then there was Kirby Puckett. Now, he was a fan favorite. A real good player, he was. Hit the ball a lot too, but not as much as Sam Rice. Kirby was somethin’ special, though. Everyone loved him.
I remember hearin’ about that ’87 team. Kent Hrbek at first base, that young fella Knoblauch at second, Greg Gagne at shortstop, Brian Harper catchin’, and Kirby Puckett in the outfield. That was a good bunch, they were. They knew how to win, that’s for sure. It takes a whole team, ya know. Can’t just have one fella doin’ it all.
Winnin’ 20 games, that ain’t just about talent, though. It’s about hard work. Gotta be out there every day, throwin’ that ball, tryin’ your best. And sometimes, even when you do your best, you still don’t win. That’s baseball, I guess. It ain’t always fair. But when you do get that 20th win, it must feel mighty good.
This year, well, it’s been somethin’ else. Ups and downs, ya know? Like always. But these Twins, they got some fight in ’em. They keep goin’, even when things get tough. That’s what you gotta do in life, too. Just keep goin’, no matter what. Life throws you curveballs, just like in baseball. Gotta be ready for ’em.
I reckon winnin’ 20 games is a big deal for these pitchers. It shows they’re the real deal. They can handle the pressure, they can go the distance. It ain’t easy, like I said before. Takes a lot of grit, a lot of determination. And a little bit of luck, too. You always need a little bit of luck.
So, here’s to the Twins and their 20-game winners. Past, present, and future. May they keep on winnin’ and makin’ us proud. It’s somethin’ special to watch, ya know? A good ball game can just take your mind off things, make you forget about your troubles for a while. And that’s worth somethin’, ain’t it? It sure is to me.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. It ain’t fancy, but it’s the truth, as far as I see it.
