Well, let me tell you about them Cowboys and their last Super Bowl win. It was a long, long time ago, back in ‘96 I think. Yep, 1996, that’s right. Super Bowl somethin’-somethin’, XXX they called it.
Them boys, they played against the Steelers, yeah, them tough fellers from Pittsburgh. It was a real nail-biter, let me tell you. Back and forth, back and forth. But our Cowboys, they were somethin’ special that year. Tough as nails, they were.
Troy Aikman, he was the quarterback, a real good one. And that Emmitt Smith, he could run like the wind. Michael Irvin, he could catch anythin’ you threw at him. They were a team, a real team. They played together, fought together, won together.
- Aikman throwing the ball.
- Smith running like a crazy horse.
- Irvin catching everything.
That game, it wasn’t easy, no sir. Steelers, they were tough, real tough. But the Cowboys, they were tougher. They wanted it more. They fought harder. And in the end, they won. 27 to 17, that was the score. Beat them Steelers good.
Lord, it was somethin’ to see. Folks were cheerin’, hollerin’, huggin’ each other. It was a party, a big ol’ party. Everybody was happy. Cowboys were the champions, the best in the whole wide world.
But you know, that was a long time ago. A real long time. Seems like yesterday, but it ain’t. Years and years have gone by, and them Cowboys, they haven’t been back to the Super Bowl since. Don’t know what happened to ’em. Maybe they got soft, maybe they got lazy, maybe they just ain’t good enough no more.
I keep hopin’ they’ll get back there someday. I keep hopin’ they’ll win another one. But it ain’t happened yet. And I’m gettin’ too old to wait much longer. Heck, I might not even be around to see it. But I still got my memories, them good ol’ memories of that Super Bowl win in ‘96. That’s somethin’ no one can take away from me.
Some folks, they say the Cowboys are cursed. Some folks, they say the Cowboys are just plain unlucky. I don’t know about all that. All I know is, I want to see them win again. I want to see them boys hold up that trophy one more time. Is that too much to ask? I don’t think so.
So, every year, I watch them Cowboys play. And every year, I hope. I hope they’ll be good. I hope they’ll win. I hope they’ll make it back to the Super Bowl. And maybe, just maybe, one day, they will. Maybe one day, them Cowboys will be champions again.
But until then, I’ll just keep rememberin’ that game back in ‘96. That sweet, sweet victory. The last time them Cowboys were on top of the world. Yep, Super Bowl XXX. The Cowboys and the Steelers. 27 to 17. A game I’ll never forget.
It sure would be nice to see another win though. These young fellers on the team now, they need to learn a thing or two from them old timers. Maybe then they’d have a chance. But football these days, it ain’t the same as it used to be. Too much flash, not enough grit, if you ask me.
But hey, I’m just an old lady, what do I know? I just like watchin’ them Cowboys, win or lose. But it sure is a heck of a lot more fun when they win! So, let’s hope they get their act together and bring home another Super Bowl trophy. For the fans, for the city, and for all us old timers who remember the glory days.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. Them Cowboys, they need to get back to winnin’. It’s been too long. Too darn long.
