Alright, let’s jaw about these basketball coaches and their big ol’ salaries, the ones for the women’s teams in that Big 12. You know, the ladies who yell at the girls on the court, gotta make sure them youngsters are playin’ right, ain’t it?

Now, I hear tell some of these coaches are makin’ a whole heap of money. Millions, they say! Millions! Can you believe it? I reckon that’s more money than most folks see in a lifetime. But I guess if they’re winnin’ games and makin’ the school proud, folks are willin’ to pay up.
I saw somethin’ on the TV ’bout some coach, I think her name was Kim somethin’, yeah, Kim Mulkey, that’s it. They said she’s makin’ more than anyone else, somethin’ like three million and a whole bunch more on top of that. Three million dollars! That’s enough to buy a whole lotta cows and chickens, let me tell ya. And she ain’t the only one. There are others, see, makin’ just as much, or close to it.
Winning Ain’t Cheap
It seems like the more you win, the more money they throw at ya. Makes sense, I guess. If your team’s good, folks wanna watch ’em play, they buy tickets and all that, and the school makes money. So, they gotta pay the coaches to keep them winnin’. It’s like feedin’ a prize-winning pig, gotta give ’em the good stuff if you want ’em to keep bringin’ home the blue ribbons.
- Top earners: Like I said, some of these ladies are rollin’ in dough. Heard tell of a couple coaches, Dawn Staley and that Geno fella, they makin’ over three million, too. Just about the same as that Mulkey woman. That’s a lotta scratch.
- Other Big 12 coaches: Now, I don’t know exactly what everyone in the Big 12 is makin’, but I bet it’s still a pretty penny. Even if they ain’t winnin’ all the time, they still gotta get paid. Coachin’ ain’t easy work, I tell ya.
- More than just a salary: And it ain’t just the salaries, see? These coaches get all sorts of extras, like bonuses for winnin’ championships, cars, houses, all kinds of things. It’s a sweet deal if you can get it.
Is it worth it?
Now, some folks might say these coaches are makin’ too much money. They say it ain’t right for someone to be makin’ that kind of cash when there are folks out there struggling just to put food on the table. And maybe they’re right, I don’t know. But I reckon if the schools are willin’ to pay it, and the coaches are bringin’ in the wins, then that’s just the way it is.
I heard tell that there’s a fella, name of Self, not a lady coach, mind you, but he’s makin’ the most money outta anyone, almost ten million! Can you imagine? That’s more money than some whole towns have, I reckon. But he’s a winner, see? That’s what they pay for.
The Pressure to Perform
Of course, when you’re makin’ that kind of money, there’s a whole lot of pressure to perform. Folks expect you to win, and they ain’t shy about lettin’ you know when they’re not happy. I bet it ain’t easy bein’ one of them coaches. You gotta deal with all them players, their parents, the fans, the school administration… it’s a wonder they don’t all go gray-haired before their time.
It’s All About the Game
But at the end of the day, it’s all about the game, ain’t it? These women, they love basketball, and they love coachin’. And the schools, they love winnin’. So, they pay these coaches big bucks to make it happen. And I guess as long as the teams keep winnin’, and the money keeps comin’ in, everyone’s happy. Big 12 women’s basketball coaches salaries, that’s a mouthful, ain’t it? But it’s a big deal these days, this coachin’ and the money that comes with it.
Well, that’s all I got to say about that. It’s a whole lotta money, these coaches are makin’, but I guess that’s just the way the world works these days. As long as they’re good to them girls and teachin’ them right, I reckon it’s alright. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my own chickens.
