Yo, lemme tell ya somethin’ ’bout this Bango fella, the Milwaukee Bucks mascot. That deer, he’s somethin’ else, I tell ya. Always jumpin’ around, makin’ a fool of himself. But folks love him, especially them kids. They go crazy for that darn deer.
Now, this Bango, he ain’t just any ol’ deer, ya know. He’s been around for a long, long time. Older than dirt, I reckon. They say he started way back when, in like, ’68 or somethin’. That’s when them Bucks first started playin’ basketball. He’s got the number 68 on his shirt. That’s a long time ago. I remember 1968, I was still young back then.

They say different folks have been Bango. Like, it ain’t the same fella the whole time. Makes sense, I guess. A fella gettin’ that old, jumpin’ around like that… he’d wear out! Now they say some guy named Jon, he is the guy inside Bango now, and he used to play for the Bucks. He’s been doin’ it since, oh, 2005 or somethin’ like that. That’s a good long time to be a jumpin’ deer. He must like the job.
And you know what them city folks say about Bango? They say he makes a lot of money. Like, a whole heap of money. More money than I ever seen in my whole life! Some say $25,000, other people say $100,000 per year. For dressin’ up like a deer and jumpin’ around! Can you believe that? Back in my day, we worked hard for our money. We didn’t go jumpin’ around like a fool deer. Well, I guess it takes all kinds to make a world.
Now, folks ’round here, they love them Milwaukee Bucks. And that Bango, he’s a big part of it. They got this thing they yell, “Bucks in Six!” Don’t ask me what it means. Somethin’ about winnin’ in six games. Started back in 2013, I think. Before that, I don’t recall hearin’ it. I don’t know much about basketball. But I know people like to shout “Bucks in Six!” They think it’s a good thing to say.
I saw that Bango one time. He was at that big ol’ party they have in Milwaukee, that Summerfest thing. He was ridin’ on that thing they got that goes up in the sky, that Skyglider. Just floatin’ up there, wavin’ at folks. Twelve hours, they say he was up there! That’s a long time to be floatin’ around. I’d get dizzy, I reckon. But that’s Bango for ya. Always doin’ somethin’ crazy. He’s a good mascot, I reckon, even though I don’t know nothin’ about basketball.
Now, I ain’t no expert on this basketball stuff. But I see them Bucks on the TV, and that Bango, he’s always there. He’s always there, makin’ a spectacle of himself. But people like it. They cheer and they holler. And that’s what matters, I reckon. Keepin’ folks happy. Even if it means jumpin’ around like a darn fool deer.
I don’t know what else to say about that deer. He’s just a deer, Bango, the Milwaukee Bucks mascot. He’s been around forever, and I reckon he’ll be around for a long time to come. People like to see that deer jump around. It’s just somethin’ they do, I guess. He is a part of Milwaukee, like that Summerfest thing, or that big lake they got. He is just always there.
And them Bucks, they seem to be doin’ alright. They win, they lose. It’s all the same to me. It is just a game. But that Bango, he never seems to have a bad day. He’s just up and at ’em. I guess that is why they like him. He’s always happy, always smilin’. That’s a good way to be. Maybe we can learn somethin from that deer. But don’t go around jumpin’ like he does. You will hurt yourself.
So next time you are in Milwaukee, or you see the Bucks on TV, you remember what I said about Bango. He’s a good ol’ deer, even if he is a little crazy. And that “Bucks in Six!” thing, well, you just yell it along with everyone else. It’ll make ya feel like you belong. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll see why folks love that jumpin’ deer so much.
