This thing, FCC Juniors, what’s it all about? I heard some folks talking about it the other day, sounded like some kind of big deal for the young’uns.
What is FCC Juniors?
Well, seems like this FCC Juniors thing is something for kids to learn and do some stuff. Like that Future City thing, but for the younger ones, I reckon. They get to make a model, whatever that means. Sounds complicated to me. But they got rules and stuff, I guess you can find those somewhere. That website thing, “dfw” something or other, might have it. That’s what I heard, anyway.
Signing up for things
Now, signing up for things online, that’s a whole other story. You gotta register, they say. Like when you go to the county fair and sign up for the pie contest, but on the computer. They got classes, too, these FCC folks. I guess the young’uns need to sign up for those if they wanna be part of this whole FCC Juniors thing.
- First, you gotta get one of those FRN numbers.
- Then you gotta pick the class you want, I guess.
- Then they tell you what to do next. It’s all a lot of rigmarole if you ask me.
That radio thing
And then there’s this radio business. Some folks use those walkie-talkie things, you know? Well, there’s some kind of license you gotta get for that, too. GMRS license, they call it. Costs money, of course. Seventy dollars! Can you believe that? Back in my day, we just yelled real loud if we wanted to talk to someone far away.
But if you want one of those licenses, you gotta fill out a form for the FCC. No test, though, that’s something, I guess. And it lasts for ten years. Ten years! That’s a long time. I remember when my youngest got his driver’s license, felt like it was gonna last forever, too.
Helping the young’uns
These FCC folks, they got people to help you out, too. Tutors and coaches, they call them. Free, even. That’s nice, I suppose. It’s important for the kids to have someone to guide them, show them the ropes. Like when my grandson was learning to ride his bike, his older brother was right there, helping him along.
Getting Started
If you’re new to this whole thing, like some kind of leader for a group, they got a special way for you to sign up. First time, they call it. You gotta ask for a new chapter, whatever that means. Then they give you some kind of secret code to get into their computer system. Sounds like a lot of hocus pocus to me, but I guess that’s how things are done these days.
There’s some office, a state office, I think. You can call them up, and they’ll tell you what to do. I remember calling the operator back in the day, asking her to connect me to my sister. Simpler times, those were.
Figuring it all out
They got all these instructions and help pages and whatnot. It’s a lot to take in, I tell ya. But I guess it’s good that they got it all there for folks who need it. Like a cookbook, but for this computer stuff. You just gotta find the right page, the right recipe, and follow it step by step.
Pilot’s License, too?
And get this, they even got something about pilot’s licenses! Radio licenses for pilots, I mean. I don’t know much about flying, but I guess you need a special license to talk on the radio in those planes. There’s a website for that, too. Everything’s on the computer these days, ain’t it?
They are all talking about the FRN, it seems very important. You need to have it to do anything in FCC.
All in all
So, this FCC Juniors thing, it’s a lot, ain’t it? Models and registrations and licenses and whatnot. But I guess it’s good for the young’uns. Keeps them busy, teaches them things. And who knows, maybe one of them will grow up to be a pilot or something. That would be something, wouldn’t it? You never do know with this life, they will get a better life with FCC Juniors.
You gotta get one of those FRN numbers. That’s a big one, for sure.
I don’t know too much about it, and I don’t want to use the computer, it is too hard for me. I just hope my kids can use them and get a better life.
Anyway, that’s all I got to say about that. It is about FCC Juniors, hope you understand.
