Hey folks, it’s your boy back again with another one of my adventures. Today, I’m diving into the world of “Magic Pro Tour Standings.” Now, I’m no pro, but I do love me some Magic: The Gathering, and I’ve always been curious about how those big-shot pros keep track of their wins and losses. So, I figured, why not try to figure this whole thing out myself?
First off, I started by doing some digging online. I mean, where else would I start, right? I found out that these Pro Tours are a pretty big deal. They started way back and then took a break, but guess what? They’re back, baby! Starting in February 2023, they’re happening three times a year – twice in North America and once in Europe. I thought that was pretty sweet! Also, there’s this thing called the “Arena Championship” that’s exclusively on MTG Arena. Pretty neat way to include the online folks, too.
Hitting Up the Forums
Next, I thought I’d see what the community’s saying. I hit up some forums and social media groups. I mean, who better to ask than the people who live and breathe this stuff? I asked around about the best way to keep up with the Pro Tour standings. The answers I got were pretty straightforward. It looks like there are two main ways: the official Twitter account and their event page. Simple enough, I guess, but not a lot of options there.
My Little Experiment
So, being the hands-on kind of guy I am, I decided to try tracking the standings myself. Yeah, I know, sounds crazy, but hear me out. I started with the “Pro Tour Outlaws of Thunder Junction,” which took place on April 26-28 in Seattle. I followed the event closely, took notes on who was winning, who was losing, and all that jazz. I even made a little spreadsheet to keep track of everything. It was kind of fun, actually. Felt like I was a sports reporter or something.
Diving Deeper
Then, I learned about this “Player of the Year” thing. Apparently, they keep track of points earned throughout the season, and it all leads up to this big event called the “Magic World Championship.” It’s like the Super Bowl of Magic! I found the standings for the 2022-2023 season and started following those. It’s a bit overwhelming, with all these names and numbers, but I’m starting to get the hang of it.
Realizations
- It’s a Grind: Man, these pros really go through it. It’s not just about playing a few games. They’re traveling, competing, and strategizing constantly. I have a newfound respect for them, for real.
- Community Is Key: I also realized how important the community is. There are tons of people out there who are just as passionate about this game as I am, if not more. It’s cool to see everyone sharing their thoughts and predictions.
- It’s Complicated: Keeping track of all this is no joke. There are so many events, so many players, and so many points to keep track of. I can see why they have dedicated people doing this.
Wrapping Up
All in all, this little experiment of mine has been pretty eye-opening. I’ve learned a lot about the Pro Tour, the players, and the whole scene around competitive Magic. It’s a lot more complex than I thought, but it’s also pretty fascinating. I’m not sure if I’ll keep tracking the standings religiously, but I’ll definitely be paying more attention to the Pro Tour from now on. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll even try to qualify myself! Haha, just kidding… unless?
Anyway, that’s it for my adventure into the world of Magic Pro Tour Standings. Hope you guys found this interesting. Until next time, keep slinging those spells!
