Okay, so, “AJ Lee Today,” huh? Man, this was a trip down memory lane. Let me tell you how I dove headfirst into this thing.

It all started with just a random thought. I was scrolling through some wrestling vids – yeah, I’m a bit of a fan – and BAM, AJ Lee pops up. Instant nostalgia. I hadn’t thought about her in ages, but something clicked. I remembered how much I dug her whole vibe back in the day, so I decided, “Why not revisit some of her matches?”
First step: YouTube. I searched for “AJ Lee best matches” and just started watching. I’m talking straight up marathoning. I watched her matches against Paige, her storylines with Daniel Bryan and Kane… the whole shebang. I even dug up some old interviews just to get a better feel for her personality again. It was seriously like stepping into a time machine.
Next, I was like, “Okay, watching is cool, but I wanna do something.” So, I started looking into her wrestling style. I noticed she had a really unique way of moving in the ring, a mix of agility and just… pure attitude. I tried mimicking some of her moves, like her Black Widow submission. Let me tell you, that’s harder than it looks! I almost twisted my ankle trying it on my couch. Good thing no one was watching, haha.
After almost breaking myself, I decided to dial it back a notch. Instead of trying to copy her moves exactly, I focused on understanding why she moved the way she did. What was her strategy? How did she use her size (or lack thereof) to her advantage? I spent hours just analyzing her matches, pausing, rewinding, and taking mental notes. Seriously, I was getting way too into it.
Then came the outfit. AJ’s look was so iconic, right? The Chuck Taylors, the shorts, the t-shirts. I figured, why not put together a similar outfit just for fun? I hit up a few thrift stores and managed to find a pair of black Chucks in my size. Scored some ripped denim shorts too. The t-shirt was the hardest part, but eventually I found a band tee that felt close enough to her style. I’m not gonna lie, I felt pretty badass rocking that getup, even if it was just in my living room.

Finally, I decided to put everything together. I blasted her theme music (Let’s Light It Up by Kari Kimmel), threw on the outfit, and started shadow boxing. I know, I know, it sounds super dorky, but it was actually a blast. I wasn’t trying to become a wrestler or anything, just having fun channeling her energy and attitude.
The Result: Did I magically become a wrestling pro? Nope. But I had a damn good time revisiting a part of my childhood and learning a thing or two about performance and character. Plus, I now have a killer Halloween costume idea. All in all, a successful “AJ Lee Today” experiment!
