Okay, so I was messing around with AI image generation today, and I decided to try and recreate that iconic photo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. You know, the one where they’re leaning on their bats and grinning?

First, I fired up my image generator. I’ve been using a few different ones, some are better at faces, others are better at overall composition, it’s a mixed bag, you know?
The Experiment Begins
I typed in something like “photo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, black and white, 1930s, baseball stadium”. Pretty basic, right?
- The first few results? Total garbage. One had three arms, another made them look like melted wax figures. It’s always a gamble with this stuff.
- So I tweaked the prompt. Added “leaning on baseball bats”, “smiling”, “Yankee Stadium”. Stuff like that.
- I started getting images that were closer, but still…off. The faces were kinda blurry, the uniforms looked weird, and the background was all messed up.
I kept playing with it. I changed up the wording, tried different art styles (even though I wanted a photo, sometimes a “vintage painting” style can trick the AI into doing better, don’t ask me why). I even tried specifying camera types, “like shot on a Kodak Brownie”, things that were popular back then.
After maybe, like, 20 or 30 tries, I got something that was pretty good. The faces were recognizable, they were both holding bats, the uniforms looked right, and the stadium was in the background. It wasn’t perfect, mind you. There were still some little glitches, like a weird shadow here, a slightly wonky hand there, but it was definitely passable.
The Results
I learned a few things from this little experiment.

- Patience is key. You’re not gonna get the perfect image on the first try, or even the tenth.
- Be specific, but not too specific. The AI needs guidance, but it also needs some room to, like, “imagine” things.
- It’s all about trial and error. Just keep messing with the prompt until you get something you like.
So, yeah, that was my afternoon. Recreating a bit of baseball history with the help of some buggy, but fun, AI. It is not perfect, but it can be really good!
