Well, now, let me tell you a thing or two ’bout this feller Anthony Rizzo and his big ol’ baseball contract. It’s somethin’ folks in them fancy city places talk ’bout all the time. Yessir, this boy, Anthony, he signed hisself a mighty fine deal with them Yankees, the New York Yankees, back in November of 2022. Now, this here contract ain’t no small potatoes, no sir. It’s a two-year deal, and let me tell ya, worth a guaranteed $40 million! Ain’t that somethin’? Forty million!
Now, this money don’t just sit there like corn on a cob waitin’ to be picked. No, no, there’s a little catch to it, kinda like when you plant your seeds and hope for rain. See, the Yankees had a chance to make a decision ‘bout his future in 2025. They had a team option, a big ol’ $17 million worth, but guess what? They decided they didn’t need it. So, instead of that fancy $17 million, Rizzo got himself a little $6 million buyout. That’s what we call a “buyout” in the city ways, which just means they paid him to go on his merry way instead of keepin’ him for that third year.
Now, I ain’t one to get too deep in all them baseball lingo terms, but from what I gather, ol’ Rizzo signed himself a nice contract back in 2022, worth $34 million too, ‘cept this time, it had that option for the 2025 season. But with them Yankees decidin’ to pass, well, that $6 million buyout is all his to keep. Ain’t that somethin’ to be proud of, folks?
Rizzo, now, he ain’t just some feller that came outta nowhere. This here guy’s been at it for a long time. He’s a first baseman, y’know, and played for the Chicago Cubs before he found his way over to the Yankees. In fact, he helped them Cubs win that World Series back in 2016—yessir, that was the year they broke that long ol’ drought. He’s got himself some All-Star titles too, from back in 2014, ‘15, and ‘16, and he ain’t no stranger to those Gold Gloves, having picked up a few of them between 2016 and 2020. And don’t get me started on them Silver Sluggers, ’cause ol’ Rizzo’s got a few of them tucked under his belt as well.
Now, you might be wonderin’, what’s next for Rizzo? Well, after that $6 million buyout from them Yankees, he’s now what they call a “free agent.” I reckon he’ll be lookin’ for another team to play for, maybe with some new folks, maybe back with the Yankees, who knows? But whatever happens, it’s clear he ain’t just a regular ol’ ball player. This feller’s made a name for hisself, and it seems like he’s gonna be around for a while longer, whether it’s with them Yankees or some other team.
Funny thing is, Rizzo’s not just about baseball. He’s a family man too, you see. Him and his wife, they adopted themselves a dog named Kevin. Don’t that just warm your heart? They live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida now, but they used to call Chicago home until they up and moved after Rizzo got traded. Now, don’t ask me where they keep their spare change, but I reckon they’re livin’ mighty fine.
So, as of right now, Rizzo’s sittin’ pretty with a $40 million contract, and while the Yankees passed on that $17 million option, he’s still got a nice $6 million in his pocket. And with his past achievements and reputation, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s got more big deals comin’ his way.
All I can say is, this Rizzo feller sure knows how to make his mark in the baseball world. He’s a hard worker, and he’s got the talent to back it up. Whatever happens next, you can bet your bottom dollar he ain’t done yet. Keep an eye out for this guy, ’cause he’s bound to keep hittin’ them home runs.
