Okay, so I’ve been messing around with golf gear lately, you know, trying to up my game and all that. I heard about this pro, Beau Hossler, and thought, “Why not see what he’s using?” So, I did some digging and tried to copy his setup, or at least get close to it.
First off, I got myself a Titleist driver. This guy Beau, he’s using a Titleist TSR3, but I went with a TSi2. It’s got this 11-degree loft thingy that’s supposed to help with, like, the angle of the ball or something. I just set it to that because Beau uses an 11 loft, but I don’t really know the details. Whatever, it feels pretty good when I swing it.
Then, I figured out he’s got this Fujikura Ventus Blue 7 X shaft on his driver. I didn’t grab the exact same one – those things are expensive! I did get a Fujikura shaft, not sure which model, but it has that ‘X’ on it, so it’s probably stiff or something. I slapped that on the driver.
I didn’t stop at the driver, though. I tried to find out what other clubs he’s got in his bag. I saw something about him playing in the U.S. Open and British Open, so he must be pretty good, right? From what I could find, it looks like he’s got a bunch of other Titleist clubs, but honestly, I didn’t go that far. I already spent a good chunk of change on the driver and shaft.
Here’s a rough list of what I ended up doing:
- Got a Titleist TSi2 driver – set it to 11 degrees like Beau’s TSR3.
- Bought a Fujikura shaft – not the exact one Beau uses, but it’s got an ‘X’ on it, so I guess it’s similar?
- Looked into his other clubs – but didn’t buy any. I’m not made of money, you know.
I took my new driver setup to the range a few times. It feels different, for sure. I think I’m hitting the ball a bit further, but my aim is still all over the place. Gotta work on that, I guess.
Anyway, that’s my little experiment with trying to copy a pro golfer’s setup. It was fun, but also kind of a hassle. And expensive. I’ll keep practicing with what I’ve got and see if it actually helps my game.
The End Result
Did it turn me into a pro overnight? Nope. But hey, at least I got to try out some new gear and learn a bit about what the pros are using. That’s gotta count for something, right?
