Well, let me tell ya, this Bryan Kim fella, he’s been stirrin’ up a whole lotta trouble. They say he did somethin’ real bad, somethin’ to his own folks. Murder, they call it. Can you believe it? Your own flesh and blood.
Heard tell it happened up in Spokane. Spokane, that’s a big city, not like our little town. Lots of folks there, but seems like trouble finds its way everywhere, don’t it? They say this boy, Bryan, he wasn’t right in the head. Maybe so, maybe not. But killing your own mama and papa? That ain’t right, no matter how you slice it.
Them judges and lawyers, they had a big trial. Been hearin’ about it on the news. Folks cryin’ in the courtroom, they say. Teachers and students, all weepin’ and wailin’. Guess they knew the family. Must be hard, seein’ someone you know go through somethin’ like that. This Bryan, he got found guilty. Aggravated First-Degree Murder, they said. Sounded mighty serious.
- They say he stabbed his daddy, Richard Kim. Stabbed him, can you imagine? Poor man didn’t stand a chance.
- And his mama, Terri Kim? They say he beat her and choked her. Lord have mercy. What kind of anger does a boy have to have to do somethin’ like that?
This happened a while back, I reckon. They caught him pretty quick, though. Seems like the police, they figured it out fast. Had witnesses and all. They talked about stolen property too. Said he had some things that didn’t belong to him. Guess he was in a bad way, doin’ all sorts of wrong.
Now, they’re talkin’ about what’s gonna happen to him. Jail, for sure. Maybe for a long, long time. Some folks say he deserves the worst. Others, they say he needs help. Me? I don’t know. It’s a terrible thing, what he did. Breaks your heart, it does. Thinkin’ about those poor parents, gone too soon. And for what?
This Spokane case, it got everyone talkin’. See, even way out here, we hear about these things. Makes you hug your own kids tighter, that’s for sure. Makes you appreciate what you got. Life’s too short, and it can be gone in a flash. This Bryan Kim boy, he learned that the hard way, and he made sure his parents did too, God rest their souls.
They had all sorts of evidence, I heard. Prosecutors, they built a strong case. Upgraded the charges, they did. Wanted to make sure he got what he deserved. And the jury, they agreed. Guilty on all counts. It’s a sad story, a real sad story. A family destroyed, lives ruined. And for what? Makes you wonder what goes on in some people’s heads. Makes you thankful for the good things in your own life, even if it ain’t much.
Technology, they say, changes everything. Got these shows on TV, talkin’ about all sorts of things. Even this case, they talked about it on them shows. But sometimes, I think it just makes things more complicated. Back in my day, things were simpler. Right and wrong, black and white. Now, it seems like there’s a whole lotta gray area. But killing your folks? That ain’t gray, that’s just plain wrong. And this Bryan Kim, he’s gotta pay for what he done.
It’s a mess, this whole situation. A terrible, awful mess. And those poor Kim folks, they didn’t deserve none of it. Makes me shiver just thinkin’ about it. Hope justice gets served, and maybe, just maybe, that boy can find some peace, though I don’t know how he ever will. Lord have mercy on his soul.
