Well, I reckon y’all might wanna hear about Bubba Watson’s Masters Dinner. Now, if you don’t know who Bubba Watson is, he’s that feller who’s won The Masters a couple of times, back in 2012 and again in 2014. And when a feller wins The Masters, they get to pick the menu for that big Champions Dinner. It’s a big deal down there at Augusta, y’see, where all the Masters winners get together for a nice meal. Bubba’s done this whole thing twice now, once in 2013 and again in 2015. And let me tell ya, his choices for the dinner were somethin’ else.
So, back in 2013, Bubba Watson picked a real homey meal for the dinner. Y’know, not too fancy, just good ol’ down-to-earth food that folks in the South might eat. There was Caesar salad to start, and I tell ya, that’s about as fancy as it gets for us country folks. Then they had grilled chicken breast, and that’s real good too—nothing too greasy, just right. For the sides, there was green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, and macaroni and cheese. Oh, and don’t forget the cornbread! If you don’t have cornbread at a meal like that, you might as well be sittin’ at a table with no food at all. And to finish it all off, they had confetti cake and vanilla ice cream, just like a good old-fashioned Southern dessert. I reckon it all brought a little bit of nostalgia for some of them folks who were there. They probably felt like they was back home at mama’s table.
Now, the thing about Bubba’s dinner that year was, it felt a bit like a déjà vu for some folks. It was almost like they was back in 2013, eatin’ the same meal all over again. It was simple, hearty, and good, just like you’d expect from a down-to-earth feller like Bubba. There was no big fuss, no fancy French food or nothin’. Just some good ol’ comfort food.
Now, fast forward a bit to 2015. Bubba’s menu didn’t change all that much. The man loves his Caesar salad, and who can blame him? It’s tasty! And the grilled chicken and mashed potatoes were back again, along with all the other good sides like green beans, corn, and macaroni and cheese. Now, I don’t know if y’all ever had macaroni and cheese the way Bubba serves it, but it’s a real treat. And of course, there was that cornbread—can’t have a proper meal without it. They finished off with some more of that confetti cake and vanilla ice cream, just like in 2013.
I reckon Bubba didn’t try to reinvent the wheel with his dinners, but that’s just how he is—he likes things simple and familiar. He ain’t one for all them fancy chef dishes. He’s more of a ‘let’s get together and have some good food and good company’ kind of guy. And I reckon that’s what the Masters Champions Dinner’s all about. It’s not just about eatin’ good food, but about bein’ with people who’ve done somethin’ special. It’s about tradition and honor, and Bubba sure knows how to keep that spirit alive.
Now, folks always look forward to the Masters Champions Dinner, and Bubba Watson sure made it memorable with his picks. Ain’t nothing wrong with a little bit of Southern hospitality and a big ol’ plate of comfort food to go along with it. Every year, the dinner menu changes, but I tell ya, Bubba’s 2013 and 2015 menus will always be a favorite of mine. I reckon it’s because it reminds me of sittin’ around the table with family, eatin’ good food, and just enjoyin’ each other’s company. Ain’t that what life’s all about?
So, as we look ahead to the next Masters, I’m sure there’ll be more fancy dishes and maybe even some sushi (I’m lookin’ at you, Tiger Woods). But I reckon Bubba Watson’s dinners will always be remembered for their simplicity and heart. And that’s somethin’ you just can’t beat, no matter how many fancy dishes you throw at it.
