Well now, let’s talk about this here Charleston RiverDogs schedule for 2023. Folks been askin’ about it, and it’s about time somebody laid it all out plain and simple, like I do with my laundry on the line.
First off, these RiverDogs, they play baseball. You know, that game with the bats and the balls and all them young fellas runnin’ around. They’re a pretty big deal here in Charleston, seems like everybody and their dog goes to see ’em play.
Now, I heard tell the season’s gonna kick off on Tuesday, April 11th. That’s what they’re sayin’ anyways. Mark your calendars, folks, if you’re the calendar-markin’ type. I just remember things in my head, always have.
They got a whole bunch of games, somethin’ like 66 home games they say. That’s a lot of baseball, if you ask me. They play at this place called Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park. It’s down by the river, real pretty-like. You can go watch the game and then take a stroll, maybe get yourself some ice cream. That’s what the young folks do, anyhow.
The RiverDogs, they’re tryin’ to win somethin’ called a “three-peat” in the Carolina League. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Means they won the last two years and wanna win again this year. Good for them, I say. Always good to be the best at somethin’, even if it’s just chasin’ a ball around.
They got this mascot, too, a big ol’ dog named Charlie T. RiverDog. Kids love him, always wantin’ to get their picture took with him. He’s a goofy-lookin’ fella, but he seems harmless enough. Reminds me of that old hound dog my neighbor used to have, always diggin’ up my flower beds.
Now, about that schedule. I hear they’re playin’ a whole bunch of games through the summer. You can find the whole thing on their website, I reckon. But I’ll tell you what, websites ain’t always easy to figure out, all them buttons and whatnot. Makes my head spin sometimes.
They got these things called “season tickets” and “Dog-E Coin plans”. Don’t ask me what a Dog-E Coin is, sounds like somethin’ out of a science fiction movie. And you can get tickets for a group, too. They even got somethin’ called the Segra Club, probably some fancy place where they serve them little finger sandwiches and such.
The home opener, that’s the first game at home, you know, it’s gonna be on Tuesday and it starts at 7:05 pm. That’s what I heard, anyways. Evenin’ game, so you won’t get too sunburned. That sun can be fierce in the summertime.
They got a bunch of folks who own the team. Some group called the Goldklang Group. Big names, I guess, but I never heard of ‘em. Marvin somethin’ or other, and that fella Bill Murray, the actor? Yeah, that’s him. Guess he likes baseball, too. And some other fellas, Mike and Tom, I think.
- Season starts: April 11th
- Home Games: 66 of ‘em
- Where they play: Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park
- Mascot: Charlie T. RiverDog
- Big Goal: Win that “three-peat” thing
So there you have it, the lowdown on the Charleston RiverDogs schedule for 2023. Best I can tell ya, anyways. If you wanna know more, go ask them young folks with their fancy phones and computers. They know everything these days, or so they think. Me, I just like to sit on my porch and watch the world go by. And maybe catch a ball game now and then, if the mood strikes me.
Game times and all that fancy promotional stuff, they say they’ll tell us later. Probably gonna have fireworks nights and give away them bobblehead dolls, you know, the ones that wiggle their heads. Kids love them things.
Anyways, it sounds like it’s gonna be a fun season. If you like baseball, that is. If not, well, you can always just go for the hot dogs and the beer. That’s what half the folks go for anyway, I reckon. Don’t tell nobody I said that, though.
And remember, they’re aiming for that Carolina League three-peat, so it might be something to see. Three in a row, that’s something to brag about, even if you’re just bragging to your cat.
So go on out and support your local team. It’s good for the community, they say. And who knows, you might even have some fun. Just don’t forget your sunscreen and your hat. And maybe bring a cushion, those bleacher seats can get hard after a while.
That’s about all I got to say about the Charleston RiverDogs 2023 schedule. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some sweet tea to make. And maybe I’ll just sit here and hum “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” You know the one. Everybody does. It’s a good song, even if you don’t know a thing about baseball.
