Two-time U.S. Open winner, that’s a thing, right? I heard it somewhere. I don’t know much about these games, but I know they got these puzzles, these crossword things. Some folks are real good at them. Me? Not so much. I can barely remember what I had for breakfast, let alone all them words. But this U.S. Open thing, it got something to do with tennis, I think. Like that game with the rackets and the little yellow ball. They hit it back and forth, back and forth. Makes my head spin just watching it.
So, this crossword, it’s got clues, right? Like little hints. And you gotta guess the word that fits. One clue, it says, “Two-time U.S. Open winner.” Now, what in the tarnation does that mean? I reckon it’s someone’s name. Someone who won that tennis game, that U.S. Open, not once, but twice! Must be a real good player. That’s all I am guessing here, because I don’t know who play the games.
These crossword puzzles, they got all sorts of clues. Some are easy, like “a color of the sky,” and you write “blue.” Others, they’re harder, like this U.S. Open one. You need to know things, like who’s who and what’s what. Sometimes it could be a place, sometime it could be a name. All I know is to guess and guess.
- They say there’s a bunch of answers to this “Two-time U.S. Open winner” thing.
- Like, a whole lot of them.
- More than you can shake a stick at.
- Maybe thirty, maybe forty, I don’t know.
- That’s a lot of people who won that game twice.
Now, I seen folks do these crosswords, and they just fill them in, quick as a wink. They know all the answers. They got all them words in their heads. But like I said, all these words just make me dizzy. I stick to simpler things, like tending my garden. You know, the real work. Planting and weeding.
They say these crossword puzzles are good for your brain. Keep you sharp, they say. Maybe that’s true, maybe not. I just think that’s too much work. This U.S. Open thing, they say the answer is a name with like five letters. SELES, they say. Who is that? Beats me. I only know the names of my grandkids, and even then I get them mixed up sometimes.
But these crossword folks, they love it. They say it’s fun. They get all excited when they figure out a clue. Like they won a prize or something. They even have books full of these puzzles. Imagine that! Books full of words and clues.
Some people put them answers in a grid. Like a little checkerboard, but with letters instead of colors. You gotta make sure the words fit just right. Up and down, side to side. It’s all very complicated, if you ask me. But who would ask me, right? I don’t know all these people.
This two-time U.S. Open winner crossword clue, though, it did get me thinking. If so many folks won this thing twice, it must be a big deal. And all them different answers they found. Makes you wonder how many folks play this tennis game, anyway. A whole bunch, I reckon.
- There could be different clues for the same answer, maybe.
- Like, they could say, “a tennis player from somewhere.”
- And the answer could still be the same, one of them two-time winners.
- Or maybe they just ask for “a tennis player,” and that’s enough.
- I am just guessing, you know.
I guess I’ll never be a crossword whiz. But that’s okay. I got my garden, and I got my family. And that’s all that really matters, right? All these games are just for fun.
So, this “Two-time U.S. Open winner” thing, it’s just another one of them crossword clues. One of many. And there’s folks out there who know the answer, just like that. Good for them, I say. Good for them. I will just keep doing my thing, no need to know all these names. And if I ever see that clue again, well, maybe I’ll remember that five-letter name. Maybe. Or maybe I’ll just go water my tomatoes. That sounds a lot more peaceful to me, to be honest.
