Alright, so, let’s gab about this fella, Cutter Crawford. Don’t know him from Adam, but the young’uns tell me he’s a baseball pitcher for that Boston Red Sox team. Heard tell he throws that ball real hard, like my grandson chuckin’ rocks at them pesky crows in the cornfield.
Now, they say this Cutter fella, he’s been pitchin’ for them Red Sox for a good few years now. Four seasons, I think they said. And let me tell ya, four seasons is a long time to be doin’ anything, ‘specially if it involves runnin’ around in the sun all day. Reminds me of the summers I spent haulin’ hay. Back-breakin’ work, it was.
This Cutter guy, he’s pitched a whole bunch of games. I ain’t sure how many exactly, but they say he’s got somethin’ like 16 wins and 25 losses. Now, I ain’t no math whiz, but that sounds like he loses more than he wins, doesn’t it? Bless his heart, he’s tryin’, I reckon. Reminds me of my chickens, always tryin’ to fly over the fence, but mostly just endin’ up back where they started.
- They say he’s a “starter,” whatever that means. Guess it means he starts the game, which makes sense, I suppose.
- And they talk about his “WHIP,” which sounds mighty painful, but apparently, it’s got somethin’ to do with how many folks he lets get on base. The lower the better, they say. Like makin’ biscuits, the less flour you spill, the better they turn out.
- He throws a “fastball,” they tell me. Well, I reckon all them baseball fellas throw fastballs, don’t they? It’s a baseball, not a slowball! Land sakes, these young folks and their fancy words.
This past year, 2024, they say Cutter was real reliable. Pitched every time they asked him to, which is more than I can say for my old mule, Jedediah. He pitched for a long time too, somethin’ like 183 innings. That’s a lot of pitchin’, I tell ya. And he struck out a whole heap of batters, 175 of ’em. That’s like shooing flies off a porch swing on a hot summer day, just one after another. And them batters, they didn’t hit the ball very good off him, only .223. That’s like tryin’ to thread a needle with your eyes closed, near impossible.
They even gave him a contract, them Red Sox did. Paid him a whole bunch of money, $760,000 they say. That’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life, I reckon. Hope he spends it wisely, not like that young fella down the road who bought himself a fancy new truck and then couldn’t afford to put gas in it.
They also talk about his “strikeouts per game.” Seems like he strikes out about 6.8 fellas every time he pitches. That’s a pretty good number, I guess. Like catchin’ fish, the more you catch, the better you feel. And they got this thing called “Statcast” that measures how good he is at catchin’ the ball himself, blockin’ it, and all that. Sounds complicated, but I reckon it means he’s a decent fielder too.
So, that’s the lowdown on this Cutter Crawford fella. He’s a pitcher, he throws hard, and he plays for the Red Sox. He ain’t perfect, loses more than he wins, but he’s reliable and he tries his best. And that’s all you can ask for, I reckon. Just like plantin’ a garden, you do your best, and you hope for the best. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it don’t, but you keep on tryin’. That’s the way life is, ain’t it?
Heard tell he started playing in the big leagues in 2021 when he was 25 years young. My goodness, that’s just a baby! Now, he’s stickin’ it out with the Red Sox, tryin’ to make a name for himself. Just like my prize-winning pumpkin, gotta put in the time and effort to grow big and strong, you know?
They tell me he throws a four-seam fastball and strikes folks out with it. Sounds like a real humdinger of a pitch! Folks talkin’ about how he throws it right past them batters, makin’ ’em look silly. Just like when a rooster tries to chase a butterfly, all flustered and missin’ every time.
Now, from what I gather, this boy’s got a whole lot of potential. He’s out there pitchin’ his heart out every game, and folks seem to appreciate his hard work. Just like bakin’ a good pie, if you put in the love and care, people are gonna notice. He might not be a superstar yet, but he’s puttin’ in the time, and that’s what matters. Reminds me of a good ol’ hound dog, always eager to please and workin’ hard till the very end.
