Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Damien Semien. Don’t know him from Adam, but I heard some folks chattin’ ’bout him, so I figured I’d spill the beans on what I gathered. Sounds like he’s been around the block, playin’ all sorts of sports or somethin’.
First off, they said somethin’ ’bout him playin’ football way back when, like in the 1990s. 1994, to be exact, for some team called the Sacramento Gold Miners. Now, I ain’t never heard of that team, but they said he only caught one measly pass for nothin’ – zero yards, they called it. Guess he wasn’t no Jerry Rice, huh? And touchdowns? Zilch! Seems like his football career wasn’t exactly somethin’ to write home about.
- Football in the 90s?
- Sacramento Gold Miners? Never heard of ’em.
- One catch for zero yards? Sounds like a whole lotta nothin’.
But then, wouldn’t you know it, this Damien fella pops up again, but this time in baseball! They’re sayin’ he plays for the Texas Rangers now. And get this, last year he smacked 26 home runs! Now, that’s somethin’ to crow about! Went from catchin’ nothin’ to hittin’ balls outta the park. That’s a big change, I tell ya.
They got all these fancy numbers they use to talk about baseball, somethin’ called “expected weighted on-base average,” or some such nonsense. Don’t ask me what it means, but it sounds like they try to figure out if a fella’s been lucky or if he’s really good. I reckon if you’re hittin’ home runs, you ain’t just lucky, you gotta be good, right?
And seems like September was a good month for him last year. Second most doubles, tied for third in total bases, fourth in hits… sounds like he was busier than a one-legged cat in a sandbox! But they also said he started the season off bad, had a real slump, they called it. Well, I guess even the best of ’em have their off days. Can’t be hitting home runs all the time, can ya?
Now, there’s another thing I heard. This Damien fella, he’s got a son, Marcus Semien. And guess what? Marcus plays baseball too, and he’s pretty darn good! They said Damien – and get this, that’s his real name, not some nickname – he played football for the Golden Bears back in the day. Seems like sports run in the family, like a bad cold goin’ around the whole darn town. They said he’s a real supportive dad, travels all over to see his son play. That’s nice, a good family man. Folks need more of that, I tell ya.
So, that’s the lowdown on Damien Semien, as far as I can tell. Started off playin’ football, not so good at it, then switched to baseball, seems to be doin’ alright now. Got a son who’s a baseball star, and he’s a supportive dad. Sounds like he’s livin’ the dream, or somethin’ like it. Not a bad life, I reckon.
In short, Damien Semien’s a fella who’s been around the sports block. From a not-so-stellar football stint to a pretty decent baseball career, he’s made his mark. And with a son following in his footsteps, it seems like the Semien name will be around for a while longer in the sports world.
