Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about them Denver Broncos and their logo, way back when, you know, in 1960. That’s when it all started, they say. Folks were all excited ’bout this new football team.
1960: The Broncos are born
Back in 1960, they didn’t have no fancy stuff like they do now. They joined this thing called the American Football League, the AFL. It was like, a new bunch of teams tryin’ to make a name for themselves. And the Broncos, well, they were one of ’em.
Now, how they got that name, “Broncos,” is kinda funny. They had this contest, see? Like, “Hey, y’all, what should we call this here team?” And somebody come up with “Broncos,” and I guess it stuck. Musta sounded good to them fellas back then.
- The team was part of the American Football League (AFL).
- The name “Broncos” was chosen through a contest.
The first logo, oh honey, it wasn’t nothin’ like what you see today. It was somethin’ simple, not much to it really. I reckon they were just startin’ out, didn’t have all the money for fancy designs. It was somethin’ like a horse, but not a real pretty one, you know? Kinda rough around the edges.
Early Days and the First Uniforms
And them uniforms! Brown helmets, they had. With a white stripe right down the middle. Numbers on the side. Plain and simple. They played in this place called Bears Stadium, in Denver. Old-timey lookin’ place, I bet.
I heard tell of a fella named Edwin Taylor. He was the one, they say, who drew up that “D” logo, the one we all kinda know now. He just sketched it out and sent it on over to the team. This was later, though, not right in 1960. More like ’round 1968, I think. The team even sent him a thank you letter, real polite of them. That “D” logo became a big deal for the Broncos.
Changes over the years
Now, the Broncos, they didn’t stick with that first logo forever. They changed it up a few times. But that “D” was there for a good long while. It became a symbol, ya know? Somethin’ folks recognized.
Then, way later, in 1997, they went and changed everything again. New uniforms, new logo, everything. Navy blue instead of that royal blue they had. And that horse head logo, the one they got now, that’s when that came around. It’s a lot fancier than that old horse they had in the beginnin’, that’s for sure.
The modern logo and colors
Nowadays, the Broncos got them fancy colors, orange and navy blue. They call ’em “Broncos orange” and “Broncos navy.” Sounds official, don’t it? And that horse head, it’s pretty sharp. But I still remember that old “D,” and that first horse logo, even if it wasn’t much to look at. It’s part of their story, ya see? Just like them brown helmets and simple uniforms. It all started somewhere, and 1960 was the year it all began for the Denver Broncos.
So, that’s the story, as best as I can tell it. From a simple start to a big-time team, the Broncos and their logo have come a long way. And it all started way back when, in 1960.
