Man, I was digging around the internet the other day, trying to settle a bet with my buddy about whether Andy Reid, the big boss over at the Chiefs, ever coached Jason Kelce. I mean, Kelce is a legend, right? So, I start my deep dive. First thing I did was hit up Google. Typed in “did Andy Reid coach Jason Kelce” and bam, a bunch of stuff popped up.
It turns out, back in his Eagles days, Reid was the guy who brought Kelce into the NFL. Can you believe it? This was way back in the 2011 draft. Kelce, coming out of Cincinnati, wasn’t the biggest guy, but Reid saw something in him. I guess you could say it was an “easy choice,” according to Reid himself. The dude’s got an eye for talent, no doubt.
I listened to this podcast episode, New Heights, hosted by Travis and Jason, from May of 2023. They had Reid on, and man, it was gold! Reid’s talking about how he drafted both of these guys. Jason in 2011 and then Travis a couple of years later, in 2013, which, get this, was Reid’s first year with the Chiefs. Talk about a welcome gift, huh?
But here’s the kicker, in the same episode, they get into this story about Kelce going off on Reid during a game. Apparently, Kelce was pissed about being taken out in the first half, and he let Reid have it on the sidelines. Pushed him and everything! I couldn’t believe it when I heard it. Imagine having the guts to do that to your coach.
- First Stop: Google search for the basic info.
- Next: Dug into the New Heights podcast episode.
- Found Out: Reid drafted Kelce in 2011 and Travis in 2013.
- Also Learned: Kelce once shoved Reid on the sideline during a game.
- Noticed: Reid’s making bank now. Apparently, he’s the highest-paid coach in the league, pulling in 20 million a year.
The Conclusion
So, yeah, Andy Reid did coach Jason Kelce, and not just for a little bit. He’s the one who drafted him! And it looks like that “easy” choice back in 2011 turned out pretty well for both of them. Kelce became a star, and Reid, well, he’s sitting pretty as the top-paid coach. It’s crazy how things work out, right? And man, that sideline story is just wild. It shows the kind of passion these guys have for the game. It’s an awesome story, though I bet neither of them would want a repeat of that moment! Oh, and by the way, I totally won that bet.
