Okay, so Halloween was coming up, and I was totally blanking on costume ideas. Then I saw all these posts about Olivia Dunne, this amazing gymnast who’s also huge on social media. She did this Wonder Woman costume, and it was everywhere! I thought, “Hey, I could totally do that.”
So I started looking at pictures of her costume. It looked pretty straightforward, not too complicated. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on some store-bought costume, you know? Plus, doing it yourself is always more fun.
Gathering My Supplies
First, I needed the basic outfit. I went through my closet and found an old red tank top. Perfect! Then I had these blue shorts that I thought would work for the bottom part. For the gold accents, I figured I could use some gold fabric paint I had lying around from another project. I also grabbed some cardboard, some paint, and some string from my craft box. I was pretty much set!
Making the Costume
I started with the gold accents. I used the gold paint to draw the eagle symbol on the red tank top. It took a couple of tries to get it right. I am not very good at painting! Then, I used the cardboard to make the bracelets and the headband. I cut out the shapes and painted them gold, too. It was a bit messy, but kind of fun, like being a kid again. For the belt, I just painted a strip of cardboard gold and attached some string to tie it around my waist.
The toughest part was probably making it look somewhat like Olivia’s. She’s a gymnast, so she’s super fit, and I’m, well, not so much. But I think I managed to capture the essence of the costume. I just focused on getting the details right, like the colors and the basic shapes. I used the string and some tape to attach the cardboard pieces, making sure everything stayed in place.
The Final Look
When I put everything on, I was actually pretty surprised! It looked way better than I expected. Sure, it wasn’t perfect, and it definitely wasn’t as polished as Olivia’s, but I felt awesome in it. It was comfortable, and I felt like I could totally do some superhero moves, maybe not backflips or anything, but you get the idea. I even did my hair and makeup to match the Wonder Woman vibe, trying to copy Olivia’s style from the pictures I saw.
- Red tank top: Check.
- Blue shorts: Check.
- DIY gold accessories: Double-check!
All in all, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It was a fun project, and I got a cool costume out of it without spending a lot of money. Plus, I got to channel my inner Olivia Dunne and Wonder Woman, which was a bonus! It made me feel like I could conquer anything, even if it was just a Halloween party. I guess sometimes all you need is a little DIY spirit and some inspiration from your favorite social media star!
Next year, I’m thinking of trying another one of her costumes. I saw this Daenerys Targaryen DIY costume, so I should try it next time. She always has the best ideas!
