Okay, so, I had this crazy idea to try and make a “dream bruised face” look using makeup. I’ve seen some cool special effects stuff online, and I wanted to give it a shot myself. No real reason, just thought it would be a fun little project.

First, I gathered my supplies. I’m no pro, so I just used what I had around the house:
- My regular foundation and concealer – nothing fancy.
- Some old eyeshadow palettes that I don’t use much anymore. I figured the weird colors would come in handy.
- A few different sized makeup brushes.
- Some makeup sponges.
- Setting spray, because I didn’t want this masterpiece to melt off.
The Messy Process
I started by applying my foundation and concealer like I normally would. Just a basic base layer, you know?
Then came the fun part. I took a deep purple eyeshadow and started lightly dabbing it around my eye socket and cheekbone. I used a fluffy brush to try and blend it out a bit, but I also wanted it to look kind of patchy and uneven, like a real bruise.
Next, I added some dark blue and even a little bit of greenish-yellow to the mix. I layered the colors, making some areas darker than others. I kept looking at myself in the mirror and adding more color until it started to look like I’d been in a fight (a fake one, obviously!).
I used a smaller brush to add some reddish-purple around the edges of the “bruise” to make it look more irritated. And I used a sponge to kind of stipple on some of the color, to give it a more textured look.

It was a lot of trial and error, honestly. I kept blending and adding, blending and adding, until I was pretty happy with how it looked. It wasn’t perfect, but it definitely looked like a bruise!
Final Touches
Once I was satisfied with the colors, I sprayed my face with setting spray. I didn’t want all that work to go to waste! And honestly, it held up pretty well. I even wore it around the house for a few hours, just to see how it would last.
Overall, it was a fun experiment. A bit messy, and it definitely took some time, but I’m kind of proud of how it turned out. I might even try some other special effects looks in the future!
