That Elko, he’s a big shot now, head football coach at Duke, you know. Big Duke University. Heard it on the radio, clear as a bell. They said his name, Mike Elko, gonna be the big cheese, number 22, they said. Sounds important, don’t it?
They hired him back in, let me think, 2021. Yeah, December 10th, 2021. I remember ’cause it was right before Christmas. My grandson, he’s a good boy, he told me all about it. Said this Elko fella, he’s gonna make the Duke football team real good.
Now, I don’t know much ’bout football, but I know Duke. That’s a fancy school. Lots of important folks go there, they say. This Elko, he must be somethin’ special to get a job like that, head coach and all.

This fella, Elko, they say he’s got a good head on his shoulders. Heard he was a coach at some other place before, Wake Forest, I think they called it. He was there in 2014. A long time ago. And Duke football, they did real good back then, won a whole bunch of games. Ten games, maybe, I don’t remember exactly.
Now, Duke, they got a big shot running things, Nina King. She’s the one who hired this Elko fella. She must know what she’s doin’, pickin’ him to be the head coach. It’s a big job, leadin’ all them football players.
They say this Elko, he’s a hard worker. Gets up early, stays up late, all that football stuff. He’s gonna make them Duke boys play good, I reckon. He’s gonna teach ’em how to win.
My grandson, he’s real excited about this Elko. He keeps talkin’ ’bout Duke football and how they’re gonna be so good now. He says this Elko is the best thing that ever happened to Duke.
I seen a picture of him, this Elko. He looks like a nice enough fella. Got a strong face, you know? Looks like he knows what he’s doin’. And he seems to care about them boys, them football players.
They had a game not too long ago, Duke did. Played against that Wake Forest team, the one Elko used to work for. And you know what? Duke won! They beat ’em good. That Elko, he sure showed them, didn’t he?
It was on a Thursday, November 2nd, I think. My grandson, he was jumpin’ up and down, yellin’ and screamin’. He was so happy Duke won. He kept saying, “Coach Elko did it, Grandma, Coach Elko did it!”
He is the best! Mike Elko! Duke football! Yessir, that boy was happy.
This Elko era, they are calling it. Sounds fancy, huh? Like it is a big time for Duke football. Hope they do good. Hope this Elko fella, he makes everyone proud. Duke is a good school, and they deserve a good football team.
Well, I reckon that’s all I know about this Elko and Duke football. It is just what I heard, you know. I am not no expert or nothin’. But it sounds like good things are happenin’ over there at Duke. That Elko, he seems like a good one. A good coach. A good man. Hope he does real good. Hope them Duke boys win lots of games. That’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it?
This Duke University is big time now with Coach Elko. They say he is good. The number one! He will make Duke football the best. You just wait and see. That Mike Elko is going to do great things at Duke. I just know it.
I hope he does not forget where he came from. Important to remember your roots. Important to be good to people. Even when you are a big shot head coach at a fancy school like Duke. That is what I think anyway. Mike Elko, Duke football, they are going to be big. Just wait and see. You will hear about them everywhere. Then you will know what I am talking about.
