Okay, here’s my blog post about figuring out bonus points in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), written in a casual, first-person style:

Alright, so I’ve been playing FPL for a few seasons now, and one thing that always kinda confused me was the bonus points system. You know, those extra points you get at the end of a match? I knew they were important, but I wasn’t totally sure how they were calculated. So, I finally decided to get to the bottom of it.
First, I jumped onto the official FPL site, figuring they’d have some explanation. And yeah, they do, but honestly, it was a bit…dense. Lots of numbers and stats, and my eyes started to glaze over. Basically, it’s all based on this “Bonus Points System” (BPS). Players get points for doing good things – scoring goals, making assists, keeping clean sheets – and lose points for doing bad things, like getting yellow cards or missing penalties.
Digging into the Details
I started watching matches with a bit more focus, trying to see who was doing what. I noticed that defenders and goalkeepers tend to rack up BPS for clean sheets and saves, obviously. But also, things like making “clearances, blocks, and interceptions” (CBI) really add up.
- Clean Sheet is the most important.
- Goal and Assist are another improtant factor.
Midfielders and forwards, on the other hand, get more points for goals and assists, but they can also get points for creating chances and completing passes. It seemed like the system rewards players who are heavily involved in the game, not just the ones who score the occasional goal.
Then I decided to check what the bonus points were like, after my team players played a match.

Putting it into Practice
So, how has this changed my FPL strategy? Well, I’m definitely paying more attention to the BPS stats when I’m picking my team. I used to just go for the big-name players, but now I’m looking for guys who are consistently racking up those bonus points, even if they’re not always scoring.
For example, I picked up a defender who isn’t a huge goal threat, but he’s a beast at making tackles and interceptions. And guess what? He’s been consistently getting me those sweet, sweet bonus points. It’s like a little extra reward every week!
It’s still a learning process, and I’m definitely no expert. But I feel like I’ve got a much better handle on the bonus points system now, and it’s already helping me climb the ranks in my mini-leagues. So, if you’re an FPL player and you’re feeling lost about bonus points, I hope my little experiment helps you out!
