Alright, decided to get out on the court today. Had ‘Schoofs Tennis’ on my mind, just a term I use for getting some solid practice in, you know, trying to keep things steady and strong like you see some of those pros manage, maybe like Schoofs herself sometimes looks on court.

Getting Started
First things first, gathered my gear. My trusty racket, a fresh can of balls – you know the satisfying sound that makes – and plenty of water. It looked like a decent day for it, not too hot.
Headed down to the local courts. They weren’t too busy, which is always a bonus. Found an empty court and started my usual warm-up routine. Jogging around the baseline, some dynamic stretches. Gotta get the old muscles working before really swinging.
The Practice Session
Spent a good chunk of time just hitting against the wall initially. Helps me find my rhythm. Focused on really clean contact, trying to get that solid ‘thwack’ sound. Watched the ball onto the strings, simple stuff but easy to forget.
Then moved onto serves. This is always a work in progress for me.
- Tossed the ball consistently – easier said than done.
- Tried to get good shoulder rotation.
- Aimed for different spots in the service box.
Some went in nicely, others… well, let’s just say the fence got some practice too. But hey, that’s practice.

After serves, I really tried to channel that ‘Schoofs Tennis’ idea – focusing on consistent groundstrokes. Just hitting forehands and backhands crosscourt and down the line. Consistency was the main goal. Not trying to blast winners every time, just keeping the ball deep and in play. It felt pretty good when I got into a groove, moving my feet, hitting through the ball.
Had a bit of trouble with my backhand down the line today. Seemed to be sailing long more often than I’d like. Made a mental note: need more topspin on that shot.
Wrapping Up
Finished off with some volleys near the net, just quick reaction shots. Then a proper cool-down stretch. Don’t want to be too stiff tomorrow.
Overall, a decent session. Felt like I put in some good work, especially focusing on that steady baseline play. The serve needs ongoing attention, as always, and that backhand down the line is definitely on the list for next time. But it felt good to be out there, hitting the ball, getting some exercise. That’s what it’s all about, right?
