So, I decided I wanted to catch an Adelphi women’s basketball game recently. Heard they had a decent team, and honestly, I was just looking for something different to do, something local.

Getting Started
First step, figuring out when they actually played. You’d think this would be straightforward, right? I went looking online. Found the athletics website eventually. It wasn’t the worst I’ve seen, but man, sometimes finding the simple stuff like a clear schedule takes a few clicks too many. Had to poke around a bit to confirm the time and place for a home game.
Game Day Experience
Alright, game day arrived. Headed over to their campus, found the Center for Recreation and Sports. Parking wasn’t too bad, which was a plus. Walking in, it felt like a proper college sports environment, just maybe a bit smaller scale than the big Division I places, obviously. More intimate, I guess.
Found a seat, no assigned seating hassle, just grabbed a spot on the bleachers. The atmosphere was pretty good. You had parents, students, some locals like me. It wasn’t a roaring crowd like you see on TV, but people were definitely into the game.
Watching the Team
The team itself? They played hard. That’s the first thing I noticed. Real hustle out there. Watched them run their plays, saw some good ball movement. You can tell they practice, put the work in. It wasn’t always perfect, sure, saw some turnovers, some missed shots, but the effort was there.
What stood out:

- The energy level was consistent.
- Saw some good defensive plays, really putting pressure on the other team.
- Teamwork seemed solid; they were communicating on the court.
It wasn’t just about one star player, felt more like a team effort, which I always appreciate. Saw the coach working the sidelines, interacting with the players. You get a different perspective being there live compared to just reading scores.
Final Thoughts
Leaving the gym, I felt pretty good about going. It was a solid few hours spent watching some dedicated athletes compete. It’s easy to forget about these smaller college teams with all the pro sports noise, but there’s real passion there. Made me think I should probably make more effort to check out local college games. It’s different, maybe a bit rougher around the edges sometimes, but it feels genuine.
