That Kyrie, he sure is something on that basketball court. I seen him playin’, dribblin’ that ball like it’s got a mind of its own. Reminds me of my grandson, always runnin’ around, full of beans. But this Kyrie, he plays for, what’s it called, the Mavericks now. Big, strong fellas, all of ’em.
But you know, he didn’t always play for them. Used to play for some team called the Duke Blue Devils. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like some kinda royal devils. Anyway, he played for them back in, I reckon it was 2010 or 2011. Wasn’t there long, though.
Seems he hurt his toe, poor fella. Kept him from playin’ a whole bunch of games. That’s what happens when you’re runnin’ and jumpin’ all the time. My old knees can tell ya all about that. Twenty-six games, they said he missed, can you believe it? That’s a lot of sittin’ around twiddlin’ your thumbs. Kyrie Irving sure ain’t no thumb twiddler.
He only played 11 games for them Duke folks. Eleven games, that’s all. Not even a full season, not even half a full season! It’s like plantin’ a seed and not gettin’ to see the whole darn tomato grow. That’s all it was with that Kyrie at Duke.
But in them few games he did play, that boy sure did shine. Like a brand new penny, shinin’ brighter than all the rest. Averaged, now what was it, seventeen and a half points, I heard. That’s a lot of baskets! He got that ball in the hoop more often than not, that’s for sure.
- He only played 11 games for Duke.
- He hurt his big toe, poor thing.
- He was good though, real good, even with that hurt toe.
- Then he went to play with the Cavaliers.
- Now, he’s with the Mavericks.
They say he was a good candidate for some award. Freshman of the Year, they called it. Like he was the best of the new ones. And he was good. But that toe, it put a stop to all that, real quick. Like a sudden frost killin’ off your best flowers. Just ain’t fair, is it? He was really somethin’ in that NCAA Tournament. People still talk about it.
Now, he plays for that Dallas team, and he’s doin’ alright. Still got that magic touch. They say he’s missed a bunch of games this year, too. Eighteen games, I heard someone say. That’s a lot of games to miss. Eighteen games is more than he played at Duke! Injuries, they just keep followin’ him around like a lost puppy. He’s good though, real good. I like to watch him play.
You know, they say this Kyrie fella, he’s a smart one. Got a high IQ, whatever that means. Must be like knowin’ which way the wind’s gonna blow before it even starts. He sure knows which way to throw that ball, that’s for certain. He can get it in the basket even when there are lots of people trying to stop him. It’s like magic!
But back to them Duke days. Eleven games. That’s all it was. Short and sweet, like a summer thunderstorm. Over before you know it, but leaves a mark. He was somethin’ special in those 11 games, that Kyrie Irving. That boy could play. He was good at basketball at Duke. He is good now.
He played those games and he did good. Scored lots of points. More than ten points every game, that’s for sure. Good for him. It’s a shame about that toe. But he did good, that Kyrie. He played them 11 games for Duke. He was one of the good ones. I still like to watch him play.
