So, I got curious about the Masters, you know, that big golf tournament everyone’s always talking about. I was wondering, just how many pars do these guys actually make? I mean, it’s gotta be a lot, right? So, I decided to dig in and find out.
First, I looked up the basics. The Masters usually has around 90 to 100 golfers, and Augusta National, where they play, is a par 72 course. That means each player is expected to take 72 strokes to complete the course. Sounds simple, but golf is never that straightforward, is it?
Next, I started checking out the recent stats. I saw that there weren’t any holes-in-one during the 2023 Masters, which was a bit of a bummer. I found out that the last one was made by Stewart Cink in 2022. Then, I dove into the scores from each round of the 2023 Masters.
- I added up all the pars from each round.
- It was a bit tedious, but I kept at it.
- Multiply, count, and keep going.
And guess what? I found out there was a total of 3029 pars made in the entire tournament! But in the official stats, there was a grand total of 3202 pars. I estimated it should be 2975, but you know how it is with these things. It was probably that I counted it wrong.
You know what else I found out? There were 827 birdies in 2023. I should have also counted how many pars were made last year.
So, there you have it. A whole bunch of pars at the Masters. It’s just one of those things that makes you appreciate how much effort these golfers put in. Next time you watch the Masters, you can think about all those pars being made out there on the course.
