Alright, let’s talk about how much those NFL general managers make. I got curious about this the other day and man, was it a rabbit hole!
So, I started digging around, you know, just casually browsing. First, I hit up some of those sports news sites. They were throwing around figures like $1 million on the low end, all the way up to a crazy $7.5 million a year for the top dogs. The range is huge, right? Seems like it all boils down to experience. The seasoned GMs, the guys who’ve been around the block a few times, they’re obviously raking it in. The newbies? Well, they gotta prove themselves first, naturally.
Then I went a bit deeper. I found out that these GMs, they’re not just sitting around watching games. They’re responsible for everything! I mean, player contracts, hiring and firing coaches, dealing with the media circus… Some of them even handle the team’s money and marketing stuff. It’s a high-pressure gig, no doubt about it.
I also learned that there’s something called a salary floor and a salary cap. It was pretty hard to find the details on these. From what I read, the teams don’t always use all the money they are allowed. Makes sense, I guess. Gotta keep those owners happy, right?
What I Found Out
- Most GMs are making somewhere between $1 million and $3 million a year.
- The big shots, the legends, they can pull in up to $7.5 million.
- One of them, this guy Bill Belichick from the New England Patriots, is apparently the highest-paid GM, pulling in that $7.5 million. Then there’s John Schneider from the Seattle Seahawks at $3.75 million, and some guy named John Elway… who I think used to be a player?
- There are also some weird numbers out there. I saw one site that listed the average salary for an NFL GM at $94! I don’t know if that’s a typo or what.
Honestly, it’s all kind of all over the place. I even stumbled upon some discussions where people were saying that a lot of these GMs think they’re not being paid enough. Can you believe it? With all that money being thrown around, they want more!
Anyway, that’s my little adventure into the world of NFL GM salaries. It’s a wild world out there, folks. If you’re dreaming of becoming a GM, well, now you have a bit of an idea what you might be in for, money-wise. Just remember, it’s not all about the cash. It’s about the love of the game, right? …Right?
