Alright, let’s talk about my journey with Dak Prescott in fantasy football this past season. It’s quite the story, really.

Getting Started and the Draft
So, I jumped back into a league with some old buddies this year. You know how it is, work’s been crazy, but I needed that outlet. When draft day rolled around, I had my usual strategy mapped out – load up on running backs early, maybe grab a solid receiver, then figure out the QB situation. I wasn’t planning on grabbing one of the top-tier guys super early.
I watched the elite QBs fly off the board. Hurts, Allen, Mahomes… gone. Then came the next wave. Burrow, Herbert, Lamar. I was getting a little antsy, scrolling through the available players. Dak was just sitting there, staring at me from the draft board. I remembered his up-and-down seasons, the injury concerns a while back. But then I thought about that Cowboys offense, the weapons they had. CeeDee Lamb, you know? I figured, ‘What the heck,’ and pulled the trigger, maybe a round or two later than his ADP suggested. Felt like decent value at the time.
Early Season Rollercoaster
The first few weeks? Man, it was rough. I wasn’t exactly thrilled. Games where the Cowboys just ran the ball into the ground, or Dak would throw for like, 150 yards and maybe one score. My buddies in the group chat were giving me grief. “Shoulda taken Tua!” they said. I started sweating a bit, looking at the waiver wire every Tuesday morning, wondering if I needed to make a change. I stuck with him though. Mostly because the waiver options weren’t exactly lighting the world on fire either.
- Week 1: Okay, not great.
- Week 2: Yikes. Definitely second-guessing myself.
- Week 3: Another mediocre performance. Started looking at backup plans.
- Week 4: Still underwhelming. My team was barely staying afloat.
The Turning Point
Then, somewhere around mid-season, things just clicked. It was like a switch flipped. Suddenly, Dak was slinging it. Touchdown passes left and right. Big yardage games. He started connecting with Lamb on absolutely everything. I remember one specific Sunday, watching RedZone, and every time they cut to the Cowboys game, Dak was doing something awesome. Throwing darts, running one in himself occasionally. It was beautiful to watch, especially seeing my fantasy score shoot up.
That stretch was pure gold. My team went on a winning streak, mostly carried by Dak’s insane production. Those doubts I had? Gone. Replaced by that smug feeling you get when a risky pick pays off big time. The same buddies who were laughing earlier were suddenly quiet, or complaining about how “lucky” I got.

Heading Towards the Playoffs
He stayed hot for a good long while. Consistent high scores, week after week. He wasn’t just a “value pick” anymore; he was playing like one of those elite guys I passed on earlier. It felt good building the rest of my lineup knowing I had that kind of QB play locked in. Made those start/sit decisions a whole lot easier elsewhere.
Of course, no player is perfect. There were still a couple of dud games mixed in there, especially against tougher defenses. Reminded me that fantasy football is never guaranteed. But overall, his consistency during that crucial run-up to the playoffs was exactly what my team needed.
The Fantasy Playoffs & Final Thoughts
Come playoff time, I was feeling pretty confident with Dak leading the charge. He delivered a solid performance in the first round, got me the win. Then came the semi-finals… and unfortunately, that was one of those rougher games. Not a total disaster, but not the explosion I’d gotten used to. It wasn’t enough, and my season ended right there. A bit anticlimactic after the ride he took me on.
Looking back? Drafting Dak was a rollercoaster, man. Started slow, had me questioning my sanity, then turned into one of the best fantasy QBs for a huge chunk of the season, before kinda fizzling out in my personal fantasy championship hunt. It was a wild ride. Would I draft him again? Yeah, probably, depending on the price. You can’t ignore that ceiling he showed. It just goes to show, sometimes you gotta trust your gut, ride out the tough weeks, and hope things turn around. Sometimes they actually do.
