Alright, so you wanna know about this Bryce Harper fella, huh? And the Mormon thing? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I know. It ain’t gonna be fancy, mind you, just plain talk, like you’re sittin’ here at the kitchen table with me.
First off, this Bryce Harper, he’s a baseball player. A real good one, from what I hear. Plays for them Phillies now, big money guy, they say he’s worth a whole pile of cash. Millions and millions! Can you imagine? Lord have mercy. But that ain’t the point, is it? You wanna know about his church stuff.
Well, they say he’s a Mormon. You know, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That’s what they call themselves. Now, I ain’t no Mormon myself, but I know a few folks who are. Good people, mostly. Hardworking, family-oriented. Seems like this Bryce fella is the same way, from what I gather.
He’s real open about it, too. Not shy at all. He talks about his faith, writes Bible verses on them autographs he gives out. Luke 1:37, they say. Somethin’ about nothin’ bein’ impossible with God. That’s a good message, no matter what church you go to, right? He even gave one of them baseball shirts, a jersey they call it, to the head man of the Mormons, President Nelson or somethin’. Nice gesture, I reckon.
- He don’t drink no booze, neither. Someone asked him about it once, and he got all riled up, said it was a “clown question.” Funny fella, this Bryce.
- But he does drink coffee sometimes, durin’ the games I hear. Maybe that Mormon rule ain’t so strict about coffee, I dunno.
- He seems like a strong-willed fella, this Bryce. Likes to be in charge, they say. And he plays that baseball with a lot of… what do you call it? Gusto? Yeah, gusto. He plays hard, that’s for sure.
Now, I heard some folks don’t like him much. Said he was too cocky when he first started out. Too sure of himself. But you know how it is, young folks, they gotta learn. Maybe he’s calmed down some now. He’s been playin’ for a while, after all.
He’s been playin’ since he was a young’un, too. They say he was hittin’ them baseballs a country mile when he was just sixteen years old. Five hundred and two feet! Can you believe that? Must be one strong boy. He played all sorts of sports growin’ up, even football and that snowboardin’ thing. But baseball, that’s where he made his mark. Became a right fielder, whatever that is. Sounds important, though.
They call him Bryce Aron Max Harper, sounds like a mouthful to me. But most folks just call him Bryce Harper. Simple and easy. And he’s famous, real famous. People know him all over the place, not just in Philadelphia. That’s what happens when you’re good at somethin’, I guess. And when you’re a Mormon, and you ain’t afraid to say so, well, that gets people talkin’ too.
So, there you have it. That’s about all I know about this Bryce Harper fella. He’s a good ball player, a Mormon, and he seems like a fella who knows what he wants. He ain’t afraid to stand up for what he believes in, and that’s somethin’ to be admired, no matter who you are or where you come from.
Just remember, this is all just what I heard and what I read. I ain’t never met the man myself. But from what I gather, he’s alright. Just a fella tryin’ to do his best, play some ball, and live his life the way he sees fit. And that’s all any of us can do, ain’t it?
